I love the holidays--the color, the buzz, even the shopping. In fact, shopping's so high on my list my storeroom looked like Santa's workshop exploded before I was done. Having the family all here for Christmas counts as my number one blessing. The noise, the mess, the confusion are all part of the whole, and I wouldn't miss a moment.
When my older son and his wife came in with their two kids late Christmas morning for brunch, my two-year-old grandson, Logan, greeted me like this: Merry Christmas, Nana, do you have my presents?
That's my boy.
New Year's Day is another big event here as we host an annual Open House. Hordes of friends and family stream in and out through the day. So I spend--with my daughter-in-law Stacie's help--a good chunk of New Year's Eve cooking for the expected horde. It's another tradition I enjoy. And then, boy, I am done. Partied out. It's time for my winter hibernation mode. Time to clear Santa and streamers out. Time for writing and routine. As a creature of habit, I do love my routine.
Now I'm back to work, and I don't care how much it snows out there, how low the temperature drops. I'm not going anywhere. In fact, I'm working on a book now, the third in a new trilogy, The Sign Of Seven, which starts next December with Blood Brothers. It's set in a fictional town based loosely on Boonsboro, Maryland, which is only a few miles away. So in reality, and in make-believe, I'm sticking close to home.
And for four consecutive Monday nights, beginning January 29th, I'll be snuggled up at home watching Lifetime. Mandalay and Stephanie Germaine Productions have filmed four movies based on my books, all airing on Lifetime Television. I've already screened the first three, and can tell you I'm completely delighted. Angels Fall, starring Heather Locklear and Jonathan Schaech premieres on Monday, January 29, followed on February 5 by Montana Sky, with John Corbett, Ashley Williams, Charlotte Ross and Diane Ladd. On February 12, don't miss Blue Smoke with Alicia Witt, Matthew Settle, Scott Bakula and Talia Shire. To round up the productions, Carolina Moon with Claire Forlani, Oliver Hudson and Jacqueline Bisset airs on February 19.
I've been thrilled with every step of the process of seeing my books translated to the screen, and feel everyone involved did amazing work, producing stories that held true to the heart and the characters of my books. And for a little bonus, I have a cameo in each film. See if you can spot me! I hope when you flip on your TV and tune to Lifetime on those four Monday nights, you're as entertained and pleased as I am.
Between movies, if you're looking for a book, Innocent In Death, published by Putnam, hits the stands in February. Eve Dallas has a murder to solve, and an unexpected marital bump to navigate. It's an uneasy combination, and one that strains both Eve's and Roarke's emotional resources.
February's nights are cold and dark. I hope Nora Roberts on Lifetime and J.D. Robb on the page add some light, and help keep you warm!
Happy New Year,
Nora Roberts

It's been a busy and entertaining fall for me, and it's only October! Right now I'm looking out my office window at a steady rain and trees just starting to turn. As much as I love spring and summer, I can't resist the dramatic colors of autumn. We haven't had a hard frost yet, so I've still got impatiens blooming away, but I think they're time's nearly up for this year.
Last month I spent a couple of days in Calgary on the set where the Lifetime movie adaptation of my book Montana Sky was being shot. What a gorgeous spot. I'm thrilled that my Mercy Ranch will be ringed by the magestic, snow-laced Rockies. The first day we were there, the mountains stood against a pure blue sky, as if they'd been etched on them. Besides the scenery, which was impressive enough, I got a first-hand look at how much work and creativity go into the making of a movie. It's a small city behind the scenes--a village of trailers, trucks, equipment, people. Such fun for me to see how much everyone enjoyed the work, how dedicated they were to making the film. Icing on the cake was meeting the crew, and the cast. Hanging out with John Corbett was some pretty delicious icing! It was a huge bonus to meet the legendary Diane Ladd, to talk with the delightful Ashley Williams (who has the best and most infectious laugh), to watch Charlotte Ross break out in an impromptu and very impressive tap dance between takes.
I honestly couldn't have enjoyed myself more, or been more impressed with everyone involved in the film.
As yet another bonus, I'll have cameos in all four Lifetime Movies. We shot my cameo for Montana Sky live, and shot green screen scenes for Carolina Moon, Blue Smoke and Angels Fall. Costumes, directors, lights, staging! What a hoot! I wish I could describe them for you, but I can't give any hints. We plan to hold a Find Nora sweepstakes for the movies, so be sure to watch Lifetime every Monday in February--and see if you can spot me.
As much fun as it was--and it really was--I won't be giving up writing for the acting life.
Earlier this month I was honored to win the Quill award for Blue Smoke. I want to thank all the readers who voted. I'm so grateful that you'd take the time and make the effort to vote for the book.
Today's my first day back at the keyboard after spending a few days with my family in New York. We had a great time, and packed a lot into a short break. One of the highlights of the trip was watching my four-year-old granddaughter try ice skating for the first time--holding her daddy's hand--at Rockefeller Center. She loved it, and now wants ice skating lessons.
In November, Mavis will FINALLY have her baby in Born in Death. Eve and Roarke will have to deal with labor and childbirth, as well as murder. Anyone who reads the series probably knows which they prefer.
I'll be making two appearances in November for Born In Death. On Tuesday, November 7, I'll be in Forth Worth, Texas for a discussion and signing sponsered by The Forth Worth Star-Telegram. The event's being held at Texas Christian University. On Thursday, November 9, I'll be in Jacksonville, Florida for an event sponsered by Books-A-Million and The Women's Center at the University of North Florida, held at the University. I hope if any of you are in either area, you'll be able to attend.
Now, it's back to work for me.
Happy Halloween!

Dear Readers, It's nearly the end of August and even busy summers must come to an end. I'm taking a few of these late summer days to slip away with the family one more time before we all get back into our regular routines.
Those few days will help recharge me for an even busier fall. First up is the release of the first book in the Circle trilogy, Morrigan's Cross on August 29. This is another, 1-2-3 trilogy with books out in three consecutive months - the finale will be out on Halloween. It's a dip into fantasy that suits the autumn: the days are shorter and shadows draw longer and the possibilities of adventure are boundless.
In Morrigan's Cross, we meet Hoyt, a sorcerer, who must gather the circle of six who will battle the forces of evil. It's a race through time and into parallel universes as the members of the circle learn to trust their skills and each other. Dance of the Gods (Circle Trilogy) is the second book in the series and the culmination of the battle between good and evil comes in Valley of Silence.
In September, I'll be traveling to Calgary to visit the set where cast and crew are busy filming Montana Sky, one of the four Lifetime movies. Over the years, many readers have told me that they thought Montana Sky would be a wonderful movie and I'm thrilled that it is becoming a reality. Once I'm back, we will be updating the information about casts and airdates on my website .
October 7 is the next Turn the Page event. I'm so pleased to announce that Dennis Lehane will be joining me that day to sign his latest short story collection, Coronado. Michelle Monkou will also be joining us.
I've been invited to attend the New York Times' 2nd annual Great Read in the Park on Sunday, October 15 in New York City. I will be donning my JD Robb coat to take part in a panel discussion about today's compelling sleuths. We will have details about the event up in the Schedule section of my website soon.
So until late October, take care ~ Nora
