JOE GETS TROPHY REQUEST
By ED FOUNTAINE
October 24, 2007 -- Former Yankees manager Joe Torre, a longtime racing fan and part-time thoroughbred owner, has been asked by the Breeders' Cup to present the trophy for Saturday's $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic.
Trainer Rick Dutrow Jr., who has trained horses in which Torre owned a share, including the stakes filly Sis City, called with the offer but has yet to hear back from him.
"We're working on it," a Breeders' Cup spokesman said, "but it's not confirmed."
At his press conference after he left the Yankees, Torre said he'd like to spend more time attending major races, which he missed when he was manager.
