In this week's discussion, we want to ask about the path the online game genre has taken and where you would like to see it head in 2008 and beyond.

The meaning of the word "virtual world" has changed over the last few years. It used to describe an MMORPG that had a less directed experience, while now it has come to be something not exactly a video game, like Second Life. In 2008, would you like to see a return to virtual world games, like EVE Online and Ultima Online or are you happy with the current direction the two split genres have taken?

Let's hear your thoughts in the comment thread!

In their complaint against Perpetual Entertainment, Kohnke Communications wrote that they had success "in convincing reviewers to write positive reviews about the game". It is a sensitive time, especially considering the recent controversies that surround x-Gamespot Editor Jeff Gerstmann and a pair of stories on GamePro and 1Up raised the issue.

WarCry contacted Kohnke Communications and P2 Entertainment for their responses to those two stories.

In a weird twist, our newsletter weekly discussion topic asks you to place yourself as the overlord of the MMORPG industry and call the wrath of the gods down on one game. Who would you smite?

If you had the ability, what current MMO would you cancel, and why?

Really Christmasy, huh? Let's hear your thoughts after the click.

Gamasutra posted today a report by Janco Partners' analyst Mike Hickey, who talked about World of Warcraft's churn rate and its future prospects:

In his note, in which the financial analyst raised Activision's share price target from $20 to $35 in advance of the merger, Hickey particularly noted: "We expect the Company's WoW franchise will provide a strong source of continued growth. However, with a multitude of competitive MMOs positioned to enter the channel, potential subscriber fatigue and competitive options could undermine subscriber growth projections."

However, he continued: "That said, with only 4 years in the market, World Of Warcraft continues to attract subscribers at an amazing rate, with churn reported to be below other well performing subscriber based business models (we are thinking below a 4 to 5% per month.)" Churn rate refers to the number of subscribers who leave the service during the month.

The analyst concluded that WoW still has much steam in its engines, evident by Vivendi's large majority stake in the newly merged Activision Blizzard company.

Every week in our newsletter, we ask you all what you think about a specific topic. This week, we want to know more about the fabled phenomenon known as DirectX 10.

Games like Age of Conan, EVE Online and Lord of the Rings Online have been planning on the eventual shift from DirectX9 to DirectX10, but is this a shift you see in your realistic future? For many it means new video cards, new operating systems and a lot of time. Is the switch worth it? When do you plan to make it, if at all?

As usual, we want to hear your thoughts on the forums.

In our weekly newsletter we wanted to know what canceled MMOG you would want to see brought back if it was up to you. Here is this week's quesiton:

Over the years, we've seen dozens of MMOGs go the way of the dodo, but if you had your way, which game would you bring back? Would you like to be playing Ultima Online 2, Ultima X, Mythica, Wish or maybe even the recently departed Gods and Heroes?

Let us know the answer in the discussion thread.
