This years Valentines Day on City of Heroes/Villains is a lot more exciting than those of years before, two signature characters are to wed in a public ceremony on the Training Room. City of Heroes developer Sean "Manticore" Fish will be wedding Sister Psyche (played by his wife, Jennifer Fish) in-game. Players will be able to attend this ceremony on February 12th at 3PM PST on the Training Room. The event will then repeat for 3 hours, with each repeat allowing for 100 attendees chosen by luck of the draw.

Along with the ceremony event there will be some added content in the form of the Spring Fling event at Pocket D hosted, of course, by DJ Zero. Players can once again join together, both heroes and villains alike, to take on whatever DJ Zero has planned for us this year. The Spring Fling event begins February 14th and runs up until February 28th.

And last, but certainly not least, is the reveal of a new in-game item pack called the "City of Heroes Wedding Pack" the pack includes a few new costume sets, as well as four new emotes:

The official site has a new page dedicated to the 2008 Canthan New Year's Celebration. Running from Friday, February 8th through Monday, February 11th, here's some of what is in store for players:

  • Every festival has a variety of problems that must be solved by enterprising young adventurers. Supplies of everything from red dye to fireworks (both used to frighten off the nian) will inevitably run low. And, speaking of the nian, you never know when, or where, these festival-hating creatures might attack.
  • For those who want a preview of the coming year, the fortune teller will peer into your future and provide you with a very real, and legally binding, fortune. Whether your destiny bodes well or ill, it will certainly follow you into the world beyond Shing Jea.

Head to the link above to read about more events and the special bonus items and prizes to be had this weekend.

After less than a month in the big chair recently vacated by Robert Garriott, Chris Chung, the new president of NCsoft North America, talks about taking the reins in Austin and lays out some of his plans for the future:

In any organization, when you get a new person at the helm, there are bound to be questions as to what he or she is going to do. Rumors can start in the break room and quickly spread throughout the organization and beyond. It doesn't matter what the change is. Change makes people nervous. Although it helps that I've been around as a part of NCsoft in one capacity or another for the last five years, there are still a lot people in the company that don't know me very well. It can also be a burden coming behind someone so well known and respected, both within and outside of the company, as Robert Garriott.

Continuing the trend of player submitted screenshots the latest entry to the Screenshot of the Week gallery is submitted by player Keiko Owens. The screenshot is scenic and fairly somber in tone, in remembrance of those fallen during the Bane invasion.

Reviews

Tabula Rasa is the sci-fi MMO developed by Destination Games and published by NCsoft. It launched close to two months ago on November 2nd and I've been playing it daily since the Pre-Order Head Start in October. That's part of the reason why it's taken me a bit to write this review.

Sound

The sound in this game is amazing. I actually left the music on, and for me that is a rarity. Audio in Tabula Rasa is used effectively to make it necessary to listen in order to maintain situational awareness. Several times while I was running around the battlefield I actually had chills when I heard a Bane Dropship coming in behind me. The screech of a Lightbender or the hissing speech of the Thrax will haunt you even when you aren't playing. Tabula Rasa does have in-game voice chat and the quality is quite good. While not absolutely necessary, voice chat does make Control Point battles and instances go much smoother.

NCsoft North America president Robert Garriott took some time to look back over 2007 and drop a few hints about what can be expected for 2008. It's been a big year for this once "little-known Korean company":

As 2007 comes to a close, I think it's well worth discussing what a great year it has been for the company, and using that success as a platform for 2008 and beyond. We've had many exciting things happen this year, with much of it providing building blocks for even better years ahead of us.
