Tabula Rasa is adding a new arena in v1.8 but needs community assistance to name it. Check it out:

The AFS has announced a new fighting arena and need YOUR help in naming it! This new arena sports a large fighter's ring complete with red and blue "corners", bar, medic station, upper deck viewing area, and several recreation rooms. AFS officials have condoned the use of this new area for both 1 vs. 1 and Squad vs. Squad fighting events. The new AFS Arena is accessible from several locations, so even new recruits can join in on the fun.

High Command ordered the location to be built, but they aren't too creative when it comes to naming. We're asking YOU soldier, to submit your ideas for the new Arena name by Friday, April 11, 2008 to trcontests@ncsoft.com. Who knows, we might just pick your entry!

Stargate Worlds developers announced that due to the overwhelming response fans had to the human body armor in the recent trailer and screenshots, the development team has decided to change the direction of the armor for the other races:

"We loved the look of the armor on the human male so much," said Stargate Worlds Creative Director Chris Klug, "we decided 'Why not give it to everyone?' The benefits are undeniable. We'll have a lot more time to work on other ideas, such as Asgard golf."

Technical Director and Guru Demetrius Comes added his thoughts. "It's going to so be much easier to code now that we will have only one kind of armor for all player characters. The benefits are just phenomenal."

"I don't think it's necessary to distinguish the different races by different armor sets," says Senior Marketing Manager Kevin Balentine. "When you're on the battlefield you'll be able to tell between the species in a variety of other ways. We're painting the bad guys red and the good guys blue. No one has ever tried that before."

Ten Ton Hammer recently caught up with Stargate Worlds' Technical Director Demetrius Comes. Focusing on the nuts and bolts of game building, TTH asked:

Ten Ton Hammer: What sort of technique are you using to help decrease any sort of lag that might be experienced due to the fast paced combat that will be part of the game? Are there any tricks that help you do this?

Demetrius: We have and will continue to spend a good deal of focused resources on our marriage between Big World and Epic's Unreal 3 engines. This focused effort is used to ensure we cut out all the fat from the communications layer. As for tricks, the Internet is going to lag but you can still minimize the effect on your game by balancing client prediction systems, with the genre's need to be server authoritative. It's all a balancing act of allowing the client to react smoothly to the player but still insure everything they are doing is legal, balance that with today's standard approaches to latency offsetting, etc and you can have a fast-paced MMO that doesn't feel laggy.
