The first in a series of peeks of Tabula Rasa discusses the history behind the "Kill General British" end of beta event. I guess if you played UO you'd find the humor nestled within this event, but to everyone else it probably fell somewhat flat.

Basically though, this gave rise to the fun end of beta events most MMOs have today, and the fact someone killed Lord British is a story that is still told 10 years later. It was also the inspiration for our idea to conclude our test. Richard is very involved in the community for his games. During our beta, he has logged in almost every night, and the players love interacting with him. Since he's so accessible in this way, I think the community feels comfortable talking to him... and trying to kill him! Even in this beta, players have tried... unsuccessfully, although Richard is NOT invulnerable.

Find out just why General British had to die, here.

TR Vault continues with it's new Developer Question of the Week series in it's second installment. This weeks interview covers the all things Healing & Support. TR Vault is speaking with Tabula Rasa Lead Designer, Paul Sage.

Q) What other options are being considered for Healing and Defensive Targeting?

Paul Sage

Of course, I am sure people are wondering about the Biotech.

Well, as this is the Medic we are discussion, I will say only the following about the Biotech's replacement abilities:

· The AoE heal the Biotech has now will damage enemies caught in it, and it will resurrect.

· The biotech will also get the ability to remove and perhaps reverse adverse effects on players.

Interviews

Tabula Rasa Community Manager April Burba has come back for another round of questioning. This time, Matt Lowery asks about medics, melee options and more in this soon to be released NCSoft product.

image

WarCry: How exactly do Medics work? Can they heal you in combat, do they have to stand next to you?

April Burba: Medics have a combination of ways to heal allies. They have Regen Wave that massively raises the health and power regeneration rates of all squad members within a 25m radius for a full minute. There is also a healing disc tool that can be a direct target tool, a cone, or an AoE around the medic. Medics also have a leech ability that when cast on a bad guy causes anyone who damages the enemy to gain health or power based on the attack damage type done. Further, Medics have an insanity ability that turns baddies against each other - if you make an enemy healer insane, it will heal the good guys in your squad.

In a feature over at GameShark.com, writer Susan Arendt details her experiences at the Tabula Rasa pre-release party. It definitely sounds like she had quite an experience.

Just getting to Richard Garriot's Britannia Manor was an experience:

After just a few minutes on the road, our driver worriedly tells the NC Soft rep that we're being pulled over. We find a spot on the shoulder and two Men in Black (right down to the sunglasses) board our bus. They have stony expressions on their faces and a picture of the madman from the lobby in their hands. Satisfied that none of us were hiding him under our seats, they left the bus and we continued on our way. Feeling like I'm on some kind of Universal Studios ride, I happily get back to work on the code, eagerly anticipating the Next Event. Which, unfortunately for me, is getting stuck halfway up a hill.
