Ratings & Tournament Directors

The US Chess Federation is a not-for-profit membership organization devoted to extending the role of chess in the United States. USCF serves as the governing body for chess in the United States and as a participant in international chess organizations and projects.. The US Chess Federation provides official ratings for Over The Board, correspondence chess, and scholastic tournaments. Open tournaments are open to all USCF members. Every USCF member will have a provisional rating published after their first four games, and an established rating published after their first 25 games.

Look up your USCF rating using the USCF's Member Services Area.

Rule Change (subject to delegate ratification) to implement the use of
MonRoi (and other) electronic scoresheets in rated tournaments.

Rule 15A

Guidelines for certification of an electronic scoresheet

Report by David Kuhns, Chair of USCF Rules Committee regarding electronic scoresheets.

Welcome to USCF's new Membership and Tournament Registration Store

The membership and tournament entry webstore has been completely redesigned, we think you'll find it easier to use than the older version of our JOIN/RENEW/ENTER. You will now be able to join, renew and enter our national events in real time from the US Chess website! You will receive confirmation of your charge, a receipt you can print and if you joined or renewed you can print out your temporary membership card!

We are excited to offer this new feature to you. While it has been carefully tested, if you have any problems with it, please contact us by e-mail or phone.

This new program represents many new features we will be offering our members in the near future!

Important

  • New! Tournament Membership offers low cost option for rated play!
New policy regarding USCF rating of foreign FIDE-rated events  .pdf version
  • USCF Revises Olympiad Qualification Rules   .pdf version
  • Also, As of March 1, 2006 the 1/2 k option in the USCF Rating System will no longer be offered. Very few affiliates take advantage of this option so it was viewed as an unnecessary complication.
  • The minimum prize required for assignment of a prize-based rating floor is raised from $1000 to $2000 effective March 1, 2006. Prize-based rating floors shall continue to be based on class or section prizes for Under 2000 or lower only. This change is not retroactive, but as is currently the case, a player with a substantial history of not being competitive in a floored class may request that the USCF office consider lowering this floor.
