Overview of the Meriter Careers Section

Can you give me an overview of how Meriter's online application system works?

Meriter implemented an online application system in order to better manage the application, interviewing and hiring process. We typically receive more than 10,000 job applications and resumes each year, and converting to an electronic system streamlines everything from posting a job position to hiring an employee. Our new online system also benefits you because we can hire employees more quickly, which reduces the time you have to wait to hear from us.
What features are available to me through the Meriter Careers section?
Our enhanced Meriter Careers section allows you to:
  • View all open job positions, by category and with pay ranges.
  • Apply online with a job application or transfer form (for current Meriter employees).
  • Apply online to more than one job at a time through our Job Cart feature.
  • Create an account with an e-mail address and password, which allows you to come back at a later date and re-use your existing job application or resume for new jobs.
  • Login to My Career Center after you have a password, and edit your information.
  • Register for Job Alerts, which means that you will receive notification via e-mail whenever a job opens in the job category you selected.
Can you explain the buttons at the top of the Job Cart?

In addition to the Continue Search button, there are two buttons on the top of the Job Cart, which allow you to apply for jobs at Meriter:

Apply Now Clicking this button allows you to apply for all of the jobs in your Job Cart using our job application form. You may also paste your existing resume into the application form, if you wish.

Apply Now with Transfer Form If you currently work at Meriter, you must use this form to apply. This allows you to apply for all of the jobs in your Job Cart with Meriter's transfer form.

Applying Online Through the Meriter Careers Section

How do I apply for a job?

Here are the steps to follow. First, search for open job positions by choosing a category on the main Meriter Careers page. If you see a job you're interested in, add it to your Job Cart. Once you are done reviewing the open job positions, go to your Job Cart and choose one of Meriter's two applications. (These are described above by the buttons.) At this point, you will see a pop-up box that asks whether or not you would like to create an account so you can access your application at a later time to edit it and use it when you apply to more jobs. Once you fill in a form and click "Submit," your information is added to our database.

What jobs are currently available at Meriter?
All of the open positions at Meriter are posted in our Meriter Careers section. Note that you can choose to narrow down your search using the search fields provided, or view all of the open positions.
How long are job openings listed on your Web site? Are they posted for a specific amount of time, or until the job is filled?
A job remains on our Web site until the job position is filled.
Can I apply to more than one position at a time?
Yes, our site has a Job Cart that allows you to apply to more than one job at one time. Simply click Add to Job Cart whenever you see a job you are interested in. When you're ready to apply, login to the system and follow the application process. After you fill out the form and click "Submit," your information will become part of our searchable database.
Can I apply to multiple jobs at one time if I'm a current Meriter employee, and therefore need to use the transfer form?
When you see a job you would like to apply for, add it to your Job Cart. Once you are done searching, login to the system and click the Apply with Transfer Form button. After you fill out the form and click "Submit," your job application will become part of our searchable database.
What should I do if I don't have an e-mail account?
To create an account, you need an e-mail address. However, you can opt out of the process to create an account when you see the pop-up box. Note that creating an account allows you to re-use your application to apply for other jobs in the future, so you should create an account if at all possible. If you don't have an e-mail account, we recommend creating a free account at hotmail.com.
I'm filling out an application form now, and you're asking for a source. Why am I required to select one?
The source lets us know where you saw the position advertised or where you heard about us. There are two source dropdown menus that you are required to choose from when you submit a job application or resume. Please use the first dropdown to choose from a list of high-level categories, such as advertisements, job fairs, etc. Next, use the second dropdown menu to indicate the specific source, such as the type of advertisement, the location of the job fair, etc.
Why am I prompted to fill out additional information when I apply for some jobs but not for others?
If we have additional requirements for a specific job or need additional information from you, we will include these additional questions at the end of the application form. These questions help us determine if you are a good match for the job. Even if we decide you are not a good match for the job, your application will still enter our searchable database and you may be considered for another position.
If I apply to the same position more than once, will you notice my application more?
It is important to note that you should not submit your application multiple times for the same job opening, as this will not increase your chances of being contacted.
What if a position I am interested in is not listed in the Meriter Careers section? Can I submit a job application anyways?
Yes. You can submit your job application for general consideration. You will find a link to this general application at the bottom of the screen, after you search for positions. This means that your name is not attached to a specific job, but at least your information is entered into our searchable database and may be considered for future job openings. However, if you later see a specific job opening that you would like to be considered for, we still recommend that you apply for the new job.
I'd like to be able to include a cover letter with my application, addressed to the appropriate individual. How can I find out the name of this person?
All job applications are received in a central database, and sorted by job applied for and skill set. It is not necessary to address a cover letter to a specific individual. If you would like to include a cover letter, you can paste it in the resume text field after the text of your resume.
I'd like to receive an e-mail whenever a job that meets my interests becomes available. Is this possible?
Yes. If you register for Job Alerts, you will receive notification via e-mail whenever a new job position opens in the job category that you selected. You are able to unsubscribe at any time.
How do I use the Send-to-a-Friend feature?
This feature allows you to send an e-mail to a friend who may be interested in the job description or page you are currently viewing. Some people also e-mail themselves to remind them to apply at a later time. Simply click the green button in the upper right of the page, fill out the fields and click "Submit."

After You've Applied Online

I submitted my job application to you, and now need to make changes. What should I do?
If you want to revise your job application, please login to My Career Center with your e-mail address and password. This is available on the main Meriter Careers page. There, you can revise your information (this includes your resume, job application, password and e-mail address). Note that if you did not create an account, this feature is not available. This is better than submitting a new job application, as then we will only have the most-recent information for you in our database.
I saw another job I'm interested in. If I already applied to Meriter, do I need to fill out another application?
If you created an account with an e-mail address and password the last time you applied, you simply need to login when you apply to the new position. This will fill in your application, which you will be able to edit as you wish. If you applied online before November 2004 or used our old paper process, you will need to fill out a new job application through our Web site. We recommend you create an account so your information is available to you next time!
How do I know if you received my online application?
Once you submit your job application, a screen will appear thanking you for your submission. The appearance of this message is your confirmation that we have received your information. If a problem occurs during the transmission, a message will appear with the error/reason for the problem. You will then be asked to re-submit your information.
How long does it take to process a job application? When will I hear back?
If you received the confirmation message, you can be sure we received your information. Meriter Human Resources will get back to you whether or not you are being considered for hire. The exact timeframe will vary depending on the position for which you applied. It is our goal to respond to all applicants within 14 days. If you apply for general consideration (as compared to applying for a specific job) it may take us longer to respond to you.
How do I know if the position I applied for is still open?
You may view our list of open positions in the Meriter Careers section of this Web site, which is always current.
I submitted my resume through your Web site but I'd like to mail it to you just to make sure you received it. Is this okay?
If you received the confirmation message, you can be sure we received your information. It is important to note that you should not submit your resume multiple times for the same position, as this will not increase your chances of being contacted.
How long is my job application kept on file?
Your account in My Career Center will deactivate if there has been no activity (updating your information or applying for jobs) for one year.

Computer Issues

I've forgotten my password for your Meriter Careers section. What should I do?
If you created an account using your e-mail address, you can have a new password e-mailed to you. This option is available to you next to the login box. Note that the new password will be a mix of letters and numbers. You can login with this the first time and then update your password again to something easier to remember. You can do this when you login to My Career Center.
I don't have computer access at home. Are there other resources for applying to Meriter?
For faster consideration, we recommend applying online for all Meriter job openings. Several kiosks are available at Meriter for your use:
  • You are welcome to visit the Human Resources office at Meriter Hospital, where we can assist you on one of our kiosks.
  • Kiosks are also available in our Health Resource Library and in our Cafeteria, located at Meriter Hospital at 202 S. Park Street.
Note that Wisconsin public libraries also offer computers with Internet access.

Why shouldn't I submit a paper application or resume?
Each year, we receive more than 10,000 resumes and job applications. Resumes and applications sent online through our Web site reach the searchable database almost instantaneously. Paper resumes and applications need to be manually scanned into our database. You could miss the window of opportunity for a position because of the processing delay.
