China earthquake presents new problems on top of cyclone tragedy

- A Chinese-Canadian group is urging the federal government to offer the military Disaster Assistance Response Team to help out in the wake of a major earthquake in central China.

The Chinese Canadian National Council says humanitarian relief is urgently needed in the Chengdu region, where news reports say at least 9,000 people were killed in the quake.

The council says Canada has the expertise and equipment to help, especially since early reports suggest many people are trapped in the ruins of collapsed buildings. Read more
