Could Council Toss Kwame Out Before Trial?
An independent legal advisor to the Detroit City Council told the legislative body Wednesday it had the power to remove Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick from office.
Without citing specific issues which may apply, Attorney Bill Goodman told the council it could act under a City Charter provision relating to the Mayor violating an aspect of that charter during his tenure in office.
He told the body that the mayor would be removed via another charter provision that forces him to forfeit his office if convicted of a felony while serving.
Monday this week, the council refused to hear Kilpatrick's speech on his city budget after Council President Ken Cockrel Jr. said he had a majority consensus to cancel the speech from members based on a weekend phone poll.
Councilmember Sheila Cockrel said after the session that Kilparick was snubbed because a majority of the ocuncil did not believe the relationship with the mayor was "business as usual anymore."

Keep the Local Judges says Kwame
A lawyer for Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick is opposing Wayne County Prosecutor Kim Worthy's motion in 36h District Court to disqualify all judges on the bench frim hearing arguments or presiding over her case against the mayor on eight felony counts.
Worthy is awaiting a ruling on her April 7 request that Ron Giles be prohibited from hearing specific arguments in the case and that all judges on the bench be disqualified in the future.
Worthy had indicated that the political ties between the 36th District Court and Kilpatrick could as a minimum porovide the appearance of bias. She cited instances where Kilpatrick supported judges or judges had endorsed Kilpatrick in earlier elections as a basis for her request.
