Apple Publishes Details on WWDC Keynote

by , 2:20 PM EDT, May 13th, 2008

Apple announced on Tuesday that a team of executives, led by Steve Jobs, will kick off the company's annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 9 at 10:00 AM PDT. In addition, Apple said that this year's WWDC will showcase OS X Leopard and OS X iPhone.

"The five-day WWDC event, which runs from June 9 to June 13, will feature the first ever iPhone track for mobile developers with in-depth sessions and hands-on labs to fully explore the capabilities of the OS X iPhone 2.0 software, including the iPhone SDK and the App Store, a breakthrough way for developers to wirelessly deliver their applications to iPhone and iPodŽ touch users," Apple said.

This year's WWDC will have over 150 sessions that will cover Apple technologies key to Apple developers. Developers will also be able to work one-on-one with Apple engineers in lab sessions.

The annual special events, a Welcome Reception, Apple Design Awards, Lunchtime Speakers and Stump the Experts were reaffirmed.

The Apple announcement appears to establish a new nomenclature for Apple OS products. In the past, Apple's (mostly) FreeBSD UNIX OS + GUI was coined "Mac OS X," a string of characters that still seems to baffle some publications. However, now Apple has used the new terms "OS X Leopard" and "OS X iPhone" which emphasizes and clarifies the naming of the OS for the two devices.
