Snoqualmie, WA -- The Snoqualmie City Council approved a resolution on May 12 awarding a public works contract to Bird Construction of Issaquah for the construction of the new Snoqualmie City Hall at 38624 SE River Street in downtown Snoqualmie.

Among six construction bids submitted, Bird Construction provided the lowest responsible bid in the amount of approximately $4.9 million.

Groundbreaking is expected to occur in mid-June. Construction is estimated to take approximately eight months. The City of Snoqualmie plans to occupy the new offices in early 2009.

The new city hall will accommodate employees that are currently located in five separate buildings, increasing efficiencies for government business and operations, as well as providing a single location for the public to access city services and information. It will house the City Council chambers and will be designed to create a public space for civic gatherings.

The new city hall will help with revitalization of downtown Snoqualmie as part of overall economic development planning and the Downtown Master Plan. By consolidating staff, three City of Snoqualmie properties in downtown can be sold, which will open prime real estate locations for additional retail and business services, further supporting economic growth initiatives. Many aspects of the new city hall will integrate green initiatives as the city moves toward stronger environmental stewardship.

Snoqualmie, WA --  Swenson Park, the 34th park in the City of Snoqualmie, will be officially opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on May 7, 2008 at 4:30 p.m. 

To celebrate the occasion, Snoqualmie Mayor Matt Larson, Snoqualmie Director of Parks & Recreation Al Frank, and Fall City Little League President Brent Lutz will be at the park along with the Little League team that will play on the field following the ribbon cutting.

Swenson Park is located in the Deer Park neighborhood off of Snoqualmie Parkway. The seven-acre park has a 300 foot baseball/softball field, a full outdoor basketball court, and playground equipment.

Hikers found the skeletal remains of a 54-year-old transient man Sunday afternoon near Snoqualmie Falls. Snoqualmie police spokeswoman Rebecca Munson said the remains were several years old and were found at a transient camp between the falls and Snoqualmie Ridge. Police have identified the man, formerly of North Bend, but are waiting until next of kin are notified before releasing his name. The death doesn't appear to have been foul play, she said.
