Q A year or so ago Mary Avenue was beautifully repaved from Homestead Road to The Dalles Avenue in Sunnyvale. For some strange reason the section between The Dalles and Fremont Avenue remained unpaved, even though that section is in far worse condition. Then the other day restriping occurred. "Hands on the Arts" returns to Sunnyvale
Children will have an opportunity to work with dozens of local professional artists at Sunnyvale’s 23rd annual Hands on the Arts festival, Saturday, May 17. The festival will open at 10 a.m. and run until 4 p.m. at the Sunnyvale Community Center, 550 E. Remington Drive.
Participating children can purchase a wristband at one of the information booths the day of the festival. Admission for parents and siblings not participating in the festival is free, and includes all-day live entertainment. Adults are not permitted to participate in art activities, except to assist their children. Local vendors will sell refreshments. Parking is free, and the Community Center is served by VTA Line 55.

State reports Sunnyvale population gain
Sunnyvale’s population has edged higher to 137,538, according to a report by the California State Department of Finance (DOF). The report shows a one-year increase of more than 2,000 people, 1.49 percent higher than the City’s 2007 population of 135,514.
Sunnyvale remains the second-largest city in Santa Clara County. San Jose, with a population of 989,486 is the largest city, and Santa Clara follows Sunnyvale with 115,503. The same report reflects a 1.72 percent increase for all of Santa Clara County, to a new population of 1,835,549.
