Child killed as twisters hit nation's midsection

Tornadoes swept through the Midwest on Sunday, killing seven people in Iowa and a toddler in Minnesota.

A tornado touched down in the north-central Iowa town of Parkersburg at about 6 p.m. (7 p.m. ET), killing five before moving 10 miles east to New Hartford, where two others died in the storm, said Troy Price, a spokesman for Gov. Chet Culver.

Somebody better blame Bush and all the other Republicans, FOX News, Reagan, you name it..

Hell it will not take long for someone to turn a story of tragedy ino their political sounding board. How disappointing and disgusting.

My heart goes out to the folks affected by this outbreak of mother nature.

I was milking cows when we heard on the radio here in wi., what Happened in Iowa my home state, My Brother lives(lived) in what was the little town of Sinclair,Iowa which is 3 miles east of Parkersburg. the twister (tornado) leveled the town to the ground from the bridge to the railroad tracks there is nothing standing,It is like it was never on the map.The twister hit Sinclair about 5:20 p.m. and my sister called us at 5:45 to say my brother was alive but the town was leveled to the ground and gone. My brother made it to the basement just in time. His trucks are smashed, one car ,his horsetrailer, van and motorcycles as well as any other possession are no where to be found.I don't know about his dog. He lost one of his two horses. he and my brother-in-law had to walk several miles to find his injured horse, with the help of a neighbor cutting the fallen trees and my brother-in-laws help to get the horse out of the woods . His friends tried to get to him to load the injured horse in a trailer but the Highway patrol threatened to arrest them if they did not turn back. they had to walk the injured horse 3 miles to get it where they could bring in a horse trailer. the horse has many cuts, bruises and swelling,But thankfully its alive.A person heres about this happening but never figures it could happen to your family or people you grew up with and know ,such a sad tragedy, we send our heart felt prayers to the families in parkersburg,Sinclair and New Hartford .

The Goverment gave tax breaks during the cold war in the early 60's to people who built fall out shelters. I think the same should apply today with the Tempests now frequenting our Nation , to defer up to 3,000.00 for those who build a storm shelter ten ft down, perhaps 8 ft sq. with an sturdy hatch and ladder for temporary shelter. Early warning should alert all families and people to get below.

Perhaps isolating one corner of any basement reinforced similarly would suffice as well.

My thoughts are with those who lost loved ones.

I grew up in Iowa and know the Coon Rapids area well. The May, 2004, tornadoes were horrendous. The weather seems so screwy around the nation and the world right now.

My heart is sad for the grief, worry and concerns you have. May God open His heart and comfort you.

Good idea, I heard it's $2000.00 for a storm shelter to be installed. Any time it storms around here people are automatically tuned to the Weather Channel.

Words of TRUTH. Count how many disasters have happened since George Bush took office. God is definitely trying to tell us something. God is not pleased with the guy.

These disasters happen often, but it's always a tragedy for the victims. Prayers and good wishes to all affected.

Didn't Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz have a similar shelter to save her from a twister? I think it saved poor little Toto too, not sure about that one.
