Serra baseball coach Pete Jensen to enter San Mateo County Sports Hall of Fame

A little-known fact about Pete Jensen, who has coached Junipero Serra High School's baseball team to more than 500 victories during his 24 years - 22 as head coach - with the program: As a senior at Hillsdale ...

"We've always won at Serra," he said. "My memories are based on the kids. I couldn't tell you who we beat to win a league title, or any of the (Central Coast Section) games. I cherish the kids, the competition, the league and the connection I've made with players and coaches throughout the Bay Area. I'm proud of the success kids had after they left high school. I still enjoy it. It's a thrill and still a lot of fun."

Measure O aims to save our Parks!

Sometimes, the least glamorous aspects of a working park are the ones that visitors notice most when they're missing.

Many cities have already identified what they would do with their Measure O windfall. San Mateo would fix walkways and bathrooms at Sawyer Camp Trail near Crystal Springs and replace aging playground equipment at Beresford Park and East and West Hillsdale play areas. Burlingame and Hillsborough would replace Giammona Swimming Pool and add seismic safety improvements to the local recreation center.

The students will also get a hands-on history lesson by touring the ship, which supplied Allied forces after the D-Day landings at Normandy.

"I'm looking forward to playing on the ship. It's something new," said sixth-grader Brian Gonzalez, 12.
