Court puts brakes on Bell Canada sale
TORONTO -- Shares in BCE Inc. were down 13 percent late in Thursday's trading session after a court ruled that the $35 billion sale of the telecom company also known as Bell Canada was unfair to bondholders.
The ruling may derail the planned purchase by the Ontario Teachers Pension Plan. The fund is leading a buyout group that also includes Chicago-based Madison Dearborn Partners, Providence Equity Partners, Merrill Lynch Global Private Equity and Toronto-Dominion Bank.
