Shooting of 33 bears has been allowed in the Krasnoyarsk Territory during spring hunting season. This limit was set by Russian Ministry for Agriculture, as Pavel Kochkaryov, deputy chief of the Regional Regulatory Agency for Fauna Monitoring, Protection and Control, stated at the Hunting Council on April 2.
Mr. Kochkaryov announced that 20 licenses for bear shooting of 33 would be given to foreign hunters. The licenses will be given in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, expect for the hunting areas in South Evenkia, which receive no bear shooting licenses. Experts present at the meeting paid attention to the necessity of ban for hunting for female bears with cubs. Kochkaryov answered that hunters' actions were under strict control of the regulatory service.
"Moreover, the majority of the licenses will be given to foreign hunters who have a more responsible attitude to hunting. They will not kill a female bear which is being followed by cubs," he said.
Hunting season for brown bears starts in southern and central districts of the Krasnoyarsk Territory on April 25 and will finish on May 25. In northern districts of the region spring hunting period will last from May 10 to June 10.
Spring hunting for marals (Siberian stags) and Manchurian deer is allowed from June 1 to July 15. The limit for male marals with soft antlers for the Krasnoyarsk Territory was lessened to ten heads for the whole region.
