Human rights
Respect for and development of human rights are a priority of the German Government's policies. Protecting individuals from violations of their rights and basic freedoms and creating a viable framework for this, ensuring that suppression, the arbitrary use of power and exploitation no longer have a chance to flourish, is the concrete mandate towards which Germany's human rights policy is committed in international relations.

The protection of human rights is a central priority and integral part of German foreign policy to which the Federal Government will be firmly committed. Federal Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Günter Nooke, Federal Government Commissioner for Human Rights Policy and Humanitarian Aid, met human rights organizations at the Federal Foreign Office to discuss the current situation and future of human rights dialogues.
