Polio vaccination resumes in Pakistan: The Pakistan government has signed an agreement with the Taliban to resume vaccination of children against polio in Swat, northern Pakistan, after a break of 16 months. However, a religious cleric, Maulana Fazlullah, has issued a decree that claims that the vaccine is a tool used by the United States to render the recipients impotent and infertile to cut the Muslim population.

Waiting times fall in England: The number of people in England waiting more than 13 weeks for hospital treatment at the end of April 2008 was 37 200, a fall of 68% from the previous year, the latest figures show. The number of people waiting more than eight weeks for an outpatient appointment fell by 73% in the same period.
