Indians Fire In Monterey Co. 50 Percent Contained
The Indians Fire that has burned more than 50,000 acres of Monterey County vegetation since June 8 became 50 percent contained Friday, fire officials announced.
There is still no estimated time for when the fire will be contained but suppression costs have already reached just over $25 million.
The fire, burning largely within the Los Padres National Forest, has destroyed two residences, 13 outbuildings and threatened more than 1,300 structures, mostly homes.
Investigators believe an escaped campfire started the rage that has injured nine firefighters and ripped through 50,320 acres of land.

State Drops Plan For Bay Area Moth Spraying
State and federal officials Thursday suspended California's aerial spraying program to combat the crop-eating light brown apple moth in the Bay Area and other urban locations, after months of protests, lawsuits and media scrutiny.
CBS 5 Investigates has previously reported that the pheromone pesticide spraying program may not work and that the moth is not a threat to crops.
State Secretary of Food and Agriculture A.G. Kawamura, apparently in reaction to the growing public pressure, announced Thursday afternoon that all plans to send up planes to spray pheromones to fight the moth in urban areas throughout the state were canceled.
