SICKO, by Michael Moore

I've not seen it. I don't have any idea if it's right or wrong, I just don't see any reason at all to pay Moore for his opinion. There are plenty of opinions here for free.  (Thursday Jun 19 | post #15)

X; MUCH ADO ABOUT SATAN

Actually, I think that is a Rex Humbard ditty, from the earliest days of televangelism. His TV program was "the good news". But it my pre-date that.  (Wednesday Jun 18 | post #538)

Is there anything wrong with Top Stories forum?

It's not the forum...it's their idea of "Top Stories". When an interesting Top Story is presented, there are posters all over it. But so many of the recent top stories are all "been there, done that".  (Wednesday Jun 18 | post #2)

If God didn't create the universe, where did it come from?

Actually, you're right. It is a quest on my part. I want to know what is out there and where all we know came from. As an agnostic, I'm will to accept any answer that comes with proof. But I CANNOT accept "I have a feeling, share it with me" as a definitive answer. Nor can I accept a cobbled together book of ancient texts full of what modern archaeology is determining to be tall tales and exaggerations.  (Wednesday Jun 18 | post #254)

If God didn't create the universe, where did it come from?

Simply because grasping what could very well be the wrong answer just because it is readily available is the very epitome of lying to one's self. Call it what you will; self-deception, personal dishonesty, path of least resistance, easy way out...whatever. I have always considered wisdom to be learned and earned. But if wisdom is simply a collection of whatever answers happen to be readily available, then I won't be seeking any more wise men.  (Wednesday Jun 18 | post #249)

If God didn't create the universe, where did it come from?

Because you have already said, in this thread, that you believe because it gives you comfort now, comfort that you are not willing to wait on discovery to supply you. So, you simply accept whatever answer is available.  (Wednesday Jun 18 | post #247)

We Don't Believe In God Here. No Believers Thank You!!

Thank you, that was a very well thought out and articulated reply. But perhaps I worded my question badly. Why does it matter that theists refer to it as a belief. They are simply doing so just to have something to post, apparently to cover up the fact that they have nothing. Why not just accept it as the hollow, non-argument that it is?  (Wednesday Jun 18 | post #451)

We Don't Believe In God Here. No Believers Thank You!!

A question for both camps. Exactly WHAT difference does it make if anyone considers anything a belief? If I were pressed into giving myself a label, it would be agnostic. It doesn't bother me to state that I believe that a god might exist, or it might not. Or the devine penis, or the flying spaghetti monster, or Odinn, or Bast, or some of those horny little gnomes,  (Wednesday Jun 18 | post #447)

If God didn't create the universe, where did it come from?

I was simply returning the favor. The gaps are not closed. You may be right in stating they never will. Mankind may very well deplete and pollute itself out of existence long before obtaining the technology necessary to fill the gaps. But to claim that they've been filled by a supernatural being is nothing more than dishonest defeatism. If a child answers the questions on a test with answers he made up himself, because he wanted the immediate comfort of going outside to play, should he pass the test? What you are doing is the same as if you were to complete a history test using "Buffalo Bill vs. the Mummy" as a reference.  (Wednesday Jun 18 | post #244)

christianity under attack in the us

This "say what?" Here is the statement that you postedAnd here is Xcntrik InVidorc's postYou seem to be claiming that your post is justified, yet the very same post from another point of view is persecuting you. That is hypocritical of you.  (Wednesday Jun 18 | post #156)

So, using YOUR statement, but changing 2 words to make it relevant to THIS forum, is persecution, yet it was not when you posted it?? Hypocritical as well, as you?  (Wednesday Jun 18 | post #149)

The gaps exist only because the discoveries to fill them in haven't been made yet. Not because there is a god keeping them secret. Besides, you've already stated that your entire reason for your belief is because you can't stand having gaps in your knowledge and that you choose to fill them in yourself.  (Wednesday Jun 18 | post #240)
