About 300 people turned out Sunday night for the local premiere of a documentary film about how this tiny town was turned upside down by a new neighbor _ the president.

'Crawford' played on a 50-foot outdoor screen at the football field because the one-stoplight town has no movie theater. About 300 people sat on blankets and lawn chairs on the warm, windy night and munched on $2 bags of popcorn sold at the entrance.

David Modigliani's documentary tells how many of the 700 residents' lives changed after George W. Bush, while governor, bought a 1,600-acre ranch in 1999 in the early days of his presidential campaign.

Well, here's something that's bound to create a ton of conflict. South Carolina has passed a law which took effect Thursday which will offer to residents license plates carrying the phrase “I Believe” and a Christian cross over a stained-glass window. Critics, including both the ACLU and the American Jewish Congress said they were considering legal action, charging that the license plate represents an illegal state endorsement of religion.

Al Franken has won a resounding endorsement for U.S. Senate from Democratic activists at the Minnesota state convention.

The former 'Saturday Night Live' writer and performer beat college professor Jack Nelson-Pallmeyer on the first ballot Saturday. Franken had just given a speech to delegates apologizing for past jokes that offended some fellow Democrats.

Nelson-Pallmeyer conceded the endorsement to Franken and moved that Democrats unanimously back Franken. They did so by voice vote.

WASHINGTON -- Sixty-four years ago this week, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt came on the radio and implored Americans to "devote themselves in a continuance of prayer invoking thy help to our efforts." The "effort" of which he spoke was Operation Overlord, the D-Day landing of 150,000 American and Allied troops at Normandy. The risks were so great that Winston Churchill told the people of Britain: "The invasion has been launched. The result is with God." FDR described it as "a mighty endeavor, a struggle to preserve our republic, our religion and our civilization, and to set free a suffering humanity."

JAY ROCKEFELLER, CHAIRMAN of the Senate Intelligence Committee, released (yet another) report written by Democratic staffers claiming the Bush administration politicized intelligence. The "report" is a political document that is already accomplishing its goal: making headlines. I'll leave it to someone more industrious to correct the numerous errors in the report and in the news stories about it. (Maybe the White House? Nah.)

"In making the case for war, the administration repeatedly presented intelligence as fact when it was unsubstantiated, contradicted or even non-existent," Rockefeller said at a news conference. "As a result, the American people were led to believe that the threat from Iraq was much greater than actually existed."

Sen. Barack Obama on Thursday batted down rumors circulating on the Internet and mentioned on some cable news shows of the existence of a video of his wife using a derogatory term for white people, and criticized a reporter for asking him about the rumor, which has not a shred of evidence to support it.
