Grandma Todd's Black Chocolate Cake

Ingredients

4 squares chocolate

2 cups hot water

2 cups sugar

2 rounded Tablespoons Crisco shortening

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon vanilla

2 eggs

2 cups flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon baking soda

Grease and flour a 8 x 12-inch pan. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Melt chocolate in hot water and allow to cool. Mix sugar with solid Crisco, salt, vanilla, and eggs. Add flour, baking powder, and baking soda. Add cooled chocolate and water. Put in pan and bake 45 to 55 minutes until toothpick comes out clean.
