8+ years of medical school and all that residency for what?

We keep reading the local collum about what wonderful great service patients get at the local hospitals, but we never get to read the letters of those patients screwed by them!!! U S hospitals kill at least 100,000 patients annually due to hospital/doctor incompetence!!!

Also, where was the anesthesiologist, the OR nurses, the orderlies, the security guard? Somebody should have been there to ensure the doctor wasn't high...

Well, I am sure there are a number of patients who would love to get SRS (sex-reassignment surgery) by mistake. They could get the operation that they wanted and even get paid for getting it. Just hope that they are not in for a life-threatening condition, and hope for the other person's sake that nothing has to be removed.

In the end, after the hospital administrator and their legal departments get done with everything it will all come down to the same blame game.

It was the patient's fault!

If you the patient don't mark with a big sharpie which side the surgeon is supposed to operate on, then you have nobody to blame but yourself. You should always mark in big black letters.....CUT HERE.

On the other side, the wrong side mark in big red letters.... WRONG SIDE!

And then make sure that everybody in the room has their glasses on and can read english!

Also when you are getting your xrays done, make sure that the student who is taking them has their right or left marker on the correct side. You won't have somebody experienced taking your pictures, as a cost cutting measure, only students staff the departments now. If the students don't know how to take your exam, you can always position yourself.

OH, and don't forget to have your full name tattooed on both sides of your body in two inch high letters so that everybody knows who they are cutting on!

Just because it's on your wrist doesn't mean that anybody is interested in reading it.(heck, it might be the wrong name, so everyday when you wake up, check your wrist band to see who you are today)

If the lungs looked so similar then I would really like to know why the patient was having one removed. I would also like to know why he didnt immediately suffer complications, possibly in recovery. Taking out a lung is no small thing. I mean, was it cancerous or what?

Talking about medial care...it should be called "medical suicide" why is it that all the people who work in that industry are always rude with no regaurd for human life.... the last time I was in the doctors office this is the conversation I heard between the women in the office-
Lady 1: I gave the lady the middle finger and told her "you figure it out lady"
Lady 2:Your wrong
Lady 1: Yea I don't know how I sleep at night.

What a scary conversation to hear- so I changed doctors. I just got a letter in the mail that said that my doctor was "releasing me" as a patient? What?

Sad, but it's true.

Hospital lawyers go on the offensive because people act like a malpractice case is a lottery jackpot. You have to consider how many transplants were a success compared to one isolated case of a surgeon's incompetence. And you also have to realize that modern medicine is not perfection, they are coming up with new and improved procedures all the time. As a patient you assume that the people operating on you at least know what lung to take, but the truth is there is no magic cure for anything. Alot can happen in the OR.
