Weis On CPD Shootings: Officers Face Danger Daily
On the day of the eighth shooting involving Chicago Police in two weeks, Supt. Jody Weis said the reality is that "officers are having guns pointed at them and guns shot at them nearly every day."
As CBS 2's Joanie Lum reports, the latest incident happened around 5 p.m. Tuesday in the 2700 block of North Kilbourn Avenue on the city's Northwest Side. The man police shot and killed, Luis Colon, 18, was on parole for a weapons violation and police said he was a gang member.
Police said officers opened fire on Colon after he pointed a gun at them.

Owner Claims Dogs Found Running Down Kennedy
An owner has claimed the two dogs that were found running along the Kennedy Expressway in the middle of traffic early Monday morning.
The owner of the male and female sharpei dogs claimed his two pets later on Monday morning, Chicago Animal Care and Control executive director Ann Kent said.
The dogs will have to be spayed and neutered before they are returned to the owner, Kent said. She declined to say who the owner was, or how the dogs got loose on the expressway.
Around 5:15 a.m., the dogs were found running on the inbound lanes of the expressway near Diversey Avenue. Kris Habermehl spotted them from Chopper 2 as Illinois State Police closed the inbound lanes.

Tribune Company Chairman Sam Zell may be putting the Tribune Tower up for sale, according to a memo posted by the Tribune newspaper.
Zell said in a memo posted on the Tribune's site saying he had said from the beginning that there would be "no sacred" cows and all efforts would me made to maximize the value of company assets. Thus, the memo said, "we are in the process of asking a number of real estate firms to give us their best thinking on how we can generate more value from Tribune Tower in Chicago, and the Times Mirror Square complex in Los Angeles."

Man Charged With Rape and Murder of 71-Yr.-Old
A Chicago man has been charged with first-degree murder for the bludgeoning death of a 71-year-old woman along with her dog Monday afternoon in her South Shore basement, police said.
Danelo Solis, of the 3400 block of West 37th Place, was charged with first-degree murder and aggravated criminal sexual assault following the murder of Dorothy Brown Taylor, who was discovered bludgeoned and strangled to death with her poodle Frisky Monday.
Solis, 25, is accused of raping and murdering Taylor on June 16 in the 7200 block of South Coles Avenue, police said.

3 Kids Among 5 Injured In Eisenhower Rollover
Two lanes of the outbound Eisenhower Expressway have been reopened after a rollover crash in the western suburbs Tuesday morning.
Five people were injured in the crash, including three young children, according to fire officials.
The crash occurred about 11:15 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-290 west of Mannheim Road, according to an Illinois State Police District Chicago trooper.
A family of five was riding in a small compact car that rolled over and caught fire just east of St. Charles Road, according to Hillside Fire Lt. James Flynn.
