Panasonic wins industry prize for projectors

03 July 2008

Panasonic's PT-DZ12000U projector has won 'Best HD Projection Product' and 'Most Innovative Install Grade Video Projector' at an awards ceremony by New Bay Media's Rental & Staging Systems and Systems Contractor News magazines.

The awards recognise and reward excellence in the integration of audio, video, control and networking products in the installation market and best new products introduced in 2008.

"We're honoured to receive these prestigious industry awards that recognise innovation in product design and value to the installation market," said Thomas Zitelli, president of Panasonic Projector Systems Company.

He added that the projector was specifically designed with input from Panasonic's customers, to deliver the "high level of quality and reliability they expect".

This is the second consecutive month that Panasonic has won an award for its range of products. In June, the company won 'Best Audio Visual Brand 2008' for the second year running at the prestigious Which? Awards.

LCD screens review

03 July 2008

Sony's all-new E4000 Series BRAVIA LCD lights up any room in your house like a piece of art. Placed perfectly on a wall or sitting elegantly on a table top, the latest LCD TV takes a big step away from the traditional black rectangle set. Its clean, understated lines make a stylish addition to any room, whether it's your bedroom, living room or even your dining room. There are four colour frame options to choose from: Midnight Sky, Aluminium, Pearly White and Dark Walnut. The LCD screens come in a choice of 26" (66cm), 32" (81cm) and 40" (102cm) sizes.

Also new is the 47LG6000, fresh from LG's Scarlet line of LCD screens. Despite its size, a massive 47" (119 cm), the TV is smart and tasteful, and doesn't look like it's overtaking the room. It's HD ready and has a built-in Digital Freeview for all viewers to enjoy. Whether you're watching films, sports, music videos or the news, this screen will give everyone a fantastic viewing experience. With the Invisible Speaker system, the speakers are embedded in strategic spots underneath and around the front bezel. This new system provides a clean and fashionable design compared with traditional side or bottom speaker.

But if you want something even bigger, then Samsung's LCD TV Series 6 will probably catch your fancy. At 52" (132 cm), the screen has an exquisite design that reflects nature's essential elements. Experience the highest definition possible with Full HD 1,080p, while Blu Ray movies and next generation gaming come to life on your screen with the 1,920 x 1,080 resolution providing such a clear image you truly feel part of the action. The high performance of the screen ensures that pictures are always deep and detailed, giving you a viewing experience that you will never forget.

Battlefield tops Xbox 360 chart

02 July 2008

Battlefield: Bad Company has debuted at number one on the Xbox 360 weekly chart.

The game was released for sale in stores on June 27th.

At number two was Beijing 2008, followed by The Bourne Conspiracy at number five, Guitar Hero: Aerosmith at number nine and Command & Conquer 3: Kane's Wrath at number ten.

Meanwhile, Grand Theft Auto IV continued to appear high on the charts at number three in the third month of its release, Digital Spy reported.

Set in the near future, the Battlefield: Bad Company single-player campaign drops gamers behind enemy lines as part of a squad of four soldiers - risking it all to go AWOL on a personal quest.

Featuring a dramatic storyline flavoured with attitude, the game leads users far from the traditional frontlines on a wild ride with a group of renegade soldiers who decide that sometimes the gratitude of a nation just isn't enough.

Camcorders Review

02 July 2008

Summer holidays will never be forgotten with Sony's new Full HD Handycam HDR-CX11E. It's the world's first ever camcorder to feature a Smile Shutter, a unique Sony technology that automatically captures crisp 7.6 megapixel photos when someone smiles. So there's no need to press the shutter button or interrupt the action: it's great for spontaneously capturing relaxed, happy moments while you're recording. Smile Shutter is teamed with Face Detection that automatically fine-tunes focus, exposure and colour balance for great-looking videos and photos of friends and family. Meanwhile, still images are captured in photo mode at an incredible resolution of 10.2 megapixels, rivalling today's finest digital compact cameras.

Alternatively, you can go for something out of Samsung's relatively new range of camcorders launched last December. Try the VP-HMX10C, which is compact enough to fit in the palm and is easy to use with innovative touch screens. It's been carefully designed to fit comfortably into the user's hand without sacrificing style. The unique Swivel grip can rotate an amazing 135 degrees, which provides an easy way for consumers not only to hold the camcorder but also to shoot video at very low or high angles. It delivers amazing HD picture quality resolution easily viewed on the 2.7-inch high-resolution touch panel LCD screen. It also boasts 10x optical zoom and 20x digital zoom, with a battery life of 90 minutes.

But if you want to get even closer to the action, try Canon's FS100. With a 45X Advanced Zoom, it comes in a remarkably compact, lightweight and easy to use package. Easy on power and quick to start, it is equipped with a versatile range of features to suit every shooting situation. You can share movies and photos instantly using removable memory cards and since Flash memory involves no moving parts, your precious footage is protected against bumps and knocks. With a battery that can last three hours, you don't need to worry if power is running out.

Rock Band 2 out in September

01 July 2008

Electronic Arts, in association with Harmonix and MTV Games, is to release the sequel to its bestselling music game Rock Band in September.

The second generation rock game will launch on Xbox 360 first with other formats to follow later in the year.

"As successful as the original Rock Band continues to be, we've now had the benefit of the last eight months to listen to our fans' requests and to build upon that foundation," said Alex Rigopulos, co-founder and CEO of Harmonix.

Meanwhile, David Hufford, senior director of Xbox Product Management, said: "We expect Rock Band 2 to continue to drive an amazing social music experience on Xbox 360."

Rock Band is the groundbreaking platform that allows music fans and gamers to interact with music like never before.

Players are challenged to put together a band and tour, while learning how to master vocals as well as instruments like lead guitar, bass guitar and drums.

If you've ever wondered what happened in the years between Episode III and Episode IV, now you can find out. No, it's not a new film; it's a new game by Lucas Arts called Star Wars: Lethal Alliance. Here Princess Leia proposes a dangerous quest to secure the future of the Rebel Alliance. As the duo Twi'lek Rianna Saren and Zeeo, the Princess' security droid, you must infiltrate Empire-controlled planes, fight legions of enemies, and return with the plans for the most destructive weapon in the galaxy, the Death Star. You can work as a team or go on separate missions, but whatever you do, beware of the Dark Side.

Football fans can capture the spirit of the Euro Cup, with EA Sports' new UEFA Euro 2008 game. Follow the journey from qualification to the finals with rain and mud dynamics that affect playing conditions, real-time player ratings that change based on player performance, and a penalty kick mode that recreates the elation and agony of a penalty shoot-out. It's all just as it is on the pitch. Experience the thrill of scoring the goal that sends your country through to the next round and play alongside your heroes to win the final.

Alternatively, try NBA Live 08, also by EA Sports, for some slam-dunkin' fun. Providing an unrivalled level of authenticity, the game introduces all-new signature moves that capture the essence of the NBA's best. Play the game on a console as you would see it from the stands, while passing the ball inside and ruling down low with 'own the paint' post play. String together combos of fakes, hooks, drop-steps, spins and shots to fool your defender into committing and create space for the game-defining bucket. Face off against the elite international teams from around the globe, including the United States, Spain, France, and more.

Star Wars fans are in for something exciting from Lucas Arts - LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy. This game combines the fun and creativity of LEGO with the characters and actions of the epic story of Star Wars. It follows the Rebel Alliance's crusade to disable the Galactic Empire and rebuild a new galaxy. Battle and build your way through favourite film moments, and enjoy characters like Darth Vader, Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker. This game is based on the original trilogy, which features the films Episode IV: A New Hope, Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back and Episode VI: The Return of the Jedi.

Meanwhile, in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry returns for his fifth year of study at Hogwarts and discovers that much of the wizarding community has been denied the truth about the teenager's recent encounter with the evil Lord Voldemort. Fearing that Hogwarts' venerable headmaster, Albus Dumbledore, is lying about Voldemort's return in order to undermine his power and take his job, the Minister for Magic, Cornelius Fudge, appoints a Dark Arts teacher to keep watch over Dumbledore and the Hogwarts students. Meeting secretly with a small group of students who name themselves Dumbledore's Army, Harry teaches them how to defend themselves against the Dark Arts, preparing the courageous young wizards for the extraordinary battle that lies ahead.

Also by EA is Curious George, beloved to readers for more than 60 years. Now you can enjoy the biggest adventure ever. The Man with the Yellow Hat sets out on a journey to Africa in the hope of finding an artefact exotic enough to save the museum where he works. George, a curious little monkey with an insatiable taste for adventure, follows the Man with the Yellow Hat back to the big city where his spunky and fun-loving nature endears him to new friends he meets along the way and lands him in a series of misadventures

Go beyond the movie with The Incredible Hulk by Sega. If you're a fan of the film, you'll love this fury-fuel game where you can attack enemies with street lights, hurl manhole covers, jump on the sidewalk and use the broken concrete to your advantage. Build The Incredible Hulk's rage to gain access to more powerful moves. As well as the Hulk causing destruction, more abilities can be gained and upgraded. See what The Incredible Hulk is really capable of! The game features key scenes from the Marvel Studios film, along with additional plotlines and characters from the Hulk's universe. It's got a 12+ certificate, so it looks like younger players might have to give up on this one.

But LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures has a Universal certificate, making it suitable for players of all ages. The game takes the fun and creativity of LEGO and combines it with the wits, daring and bravery of the Indiana Jones films. The Original Adventures follows Dr Jones' escapades through the jungles of South America to the mountaintops of India. There are more than 60 unlockable playable characters in the game to work alongside the hero, including many of his famed enemies and supporting cast, and each one has their own unique moves and skills.

Another option is the Iron Man which is based on the blockbuster movie by Marvel Studios. Immerse yourself in hardcore shooting action and explosive combat from the film as well as exclusive content created just for the game. With freedom to move anywhere in the environment, customize your Iron Man suit and seamlessly transition between ground combat and open air flight as you battle against armies of fighter jets, tanks, armoured super villains and more. You are a one man army. You are Iron Man.

Nintendo Wii games Review

27 June 2008

So what if you're not Raphael Nadal or Martina Hingis? You can still play at Wimbledon with Top Spin 3, a great new game for those who have a passion for tennis. The perfect console for this game is the Nintendo Wii because consumers can use the Wii Remote as a virtual tennis racquet. Top Spin 3 features stunning graphics and revolutionary gameplay that contains innovative new controls. Players can choose from a wide selection of current top ranked tennis pros like Andy Roddick, Roger Federer and Maria Sharapova, as well legends Boris Becker, Bjorn Borg and Monica Seles.

But if tennis is not your thing, you can try anything out of ten sports that Konami's Sports Island is offering. Up to four players can compete against one another simultaneously in the different disciplines to test their reactions and skills to the limit. Players can compete in range from the familiar, like football and basketball, before moving right across the athletic spectrum taking in badminton, curling and what Konami believes is the first title to ever feature figure skating. It's a fantastic treat for sports fans, as well as those of you who don't care much about sport but just want to have a few laughs with your friends and family.

And speaking of family fun, there's nothing better than the new Boom Blox. Designed by EA Sports in partnership with none other than director and producer Steven Spielberg, the Boom Blox offers action-packed destruction that takes Wii play to a new level of enjoyment and creativity. Players make their way through almost four hundred levels of strategic destruction, destroying their way through brain-twisting challenges with single player, co-op, and versus multiplayer options with no clean up required. Tackle the action and interact with a cast of entertaining characters including Marion "Fluffy" McCluck, a chicken that lays Bomb Blox, and a Boots Beaverton who likes to make them explode. Perfect for kids aged 8-12, rainy days spent indoors needn't be gloomy anymore!
