Humane Society: Massive Puppy Mill Raid

Animals who give unconditional love are neglected and abused just so the puppy mill owners can make an easy income. Puppy mills are all out greed. It is easy money for those running the mills but pure he!! for the dogs. They never leave a cage and are simply bred to death. Puppies are born with serious diseases and defects due to inbreeding and lack of care. There is no regard for the buyers or the animals. You won’t know that you just bought a puppy with a SERIOUS, costly, or sometimes fatal, defect until it is too late. If you have compassion and empathy, please join the fight to stop puppy mills.

Please sign the petition. Put a stop to the backwoods, barbaric, greed driven, business.

Thanks for your great article about the Patricia Adkisson puppy mill
in Lyles, TN. Ms. Adkisson has long history of animal abuse that
would put most people behind bars for a long time, yet she got
preferential treatment in the past and was exonerated of previous charges.
There have been some serious ethical breaches by our small town law
enforcement and judiciary system. Following are some links that raise
some serious questions about why someone like Patricia Adkisson is
back in business instead of incarcerated where she belongs

Citizen, how many puppy mill raids have you heard of that have stayed one step ahead of the law in TN (and other states for that matter)?

Too many who profess to LOVE animals turn a blind eye and don't report mills. The laws are NOT enforced because too many people (elected officials included) think.....they are JUST dogs.

They need to start demanding NAMES of puppy millers from Pet Stores and investigate them. I'm sure some of the babies (sick in many ways) from this God awful he!!hole are in a store now. The sub human who owned this mill should have to sit in jail for YEARS!

This one is horrible, yes. But she is only the tip of the iceberg, folks. There are many more puppy mills out there and even the "humane" ones are terrifying. Puppys are considered "livestock" and overseen (barely) by the USDA. Having the dogs in chicken-coop style cages all their lives, never feeling a human touch, never touching the ground to run - all legal and acceptable by USDA oversight standards. It is challenging for the HUS and ASPCA to win some puppy mill cases because there is an amazingly fine line between an "ok" mill and one that's crossed the line in the eyes of the court.

Until citizens 1) push the government to change the oversight and redefine what's acceptale and humane, and 2) cut demand to these mills by either adopting pets, or if buying, DON'T buy at pet shops, do an ON SITE inspection of the premises the dogs live on, nothing will change.

If you must buy, there are web sites where you can research a breeder's credentials, and USDA inspection reports. Easy to find on Google. You can find out what breeder a pet shop is buying from, also. If they're not USDA overseen, chances are they are illegal. If they ARE USDA overseen, it's not a guarantee that they are much better than this busted breeder. Read the reports carefully - what may be acceptable as a "minor infraction" to them (dead dogs with live ones, overcrowding, sick dogs not isolated, etc.) would generally NOT be acceptable to most people considering buying a dog from the place.

Read up on it; watch this past spring's Oprah Winfrey show about it; and share your views with your local, state, and federal legislative bodies. The only way to stop repeat offenders like this is to change perceptions, change attitudes, and change laws.

I wish thar some of the money Mrs. Hemsley left in her will (over billions)could go to this instead of tied up in lawyers hands.

that is great that they shut the puppy mill down. Puppies should be purchased from respected breeders. Here is a good site to start. It helps if they live nearby so you can visit their kennel

Animals should not be sold via the internet or Pet Stores. If you want a pure breed instead of rescuing from a shelter......GO SEE the breeders facility. IF you are allowed to see the kennels, make up your mind at that time. Nine times out of ten, millers refuse anyone's request to see the kennels. The request is usually denied because the kennels (cages stacked 4 high) are filthy and the dogs are neglected. Google puppy mill videos if you think you can look at the horrific condtions.

better yet, visit your local shelters. i've rescued 2 dogs and they are awesome! they're smart and extremely loving and loyal. i can't believe people would shell out hard earned money to support an industry that contributes to the overpopulation problem when there are animals just lingering, waiting for a good home.

Both of my dogs are rescues also....both are awesome!! If people would THINK about what conditions dogs are being forced to live in when they see the cute puppies in pet stores and online....surely they would STOP buying them and end the greed of puppy millers.

yeah, our stance on this probably irks a lot of the 'dog show' folks. i respect reputable breeders and appreciate what they're trying to do. however, from what i've seen, most breeders aren't very reputable. dogs and cats are being put to death on an a wholesale basis, but that doesn't seem to bother most people.

That's why I said visit their kennel first.

Thanks for that link I have signed it and sent it to all my friends and i know they will sign it also. It is ashame that people do this. I have one dog that was a stray and she is my est friend and have a AKC dog and she is another best friend. Both are in the house and never ever in a pen or very long on a chain. My one dogs loves to be out there and if she is not chained with out me being right out with her then she will find some trouble. She is like a teenager trying to find trouble. lol

Thank you Teri....The petition is a little contradictory. I'm for banning ALL puppy mills, no discussion about guidelines. We all know criminals do NOT follow rules so it would be a futile effort to even try that. I'm glad to hear you've got to girls that are happy. I have two rescues, both spoiled, but that's the way I love them!! Again thanks!!
