GOLETA, Calif. -- The Gap fire looming over this town has grown to more than 2,400 acres this morning, doubling in size overnight as it burned for its third day.

The most imminent danger was to homes around Goleta, near Santa Barbara, where one fire was fast approaching 2,600 homes and transmission lines supplying power to 100,000 people on the central coast.
