Iraqi translator starts new life in America

In his native Iraq, Haitham Jasim had risked his life alongside the U.S. Marines who hired him as a translator during deadly counter-insurgency missions. His fellow Iraqis put a $20,000 bounty on his head.

PHOTO: Capt. John Jacobs started Operation Falcon to bring the Iraqi man who translated for him when he was deployed there in 2005.

In 5 years this guy will be a success story. Unlike the millions here their entire life who will not do an ounce of work for fear of having to break a sweat.

If a person has helped the United States Forces for 5 years, it shows his intent was to help the cause of our liberating treoops. He knew all along that the regime he was forced to live under (Hussein) was no good. Five years of translating for the military is good enough intent to allow him and his family to the US. Because he is proficient in English, I don't think he is going to be a burden or on welfare, because he does not have to play the role "I don't understand English" Treat him with dignity and let him become a citizen, he has worked his way here.

You're a turd. Overpaid and underworked. If anyone knows how not to work or break a sweat, its you. This translator has more entitlements from federal and state government than than most americans are aware of,that they cannot receive. There are plenty of americans that work hard and and sweat dollars to pay heavy taxation and loans for education. I'm positive this man and his family will receive much more assistance than whats been said in this article. I commend him on his courage but I suspect there is much more to this entire story. Oh,bush' economic stimulus package. Big whoop, while he and chronies are making billions off this unjust,non-sensensical,militar y occupation of iraq that played no role in the attack of 9/11/01. Corruption absolute from the white house,to congress,to the military/industrial complex. Clean up your hazardous/toxic waste.

Yes, these people even go on line to find the "best Welfare system" in all the States in America, then they migrate to that location. It's like "online shopping", for the very Lazy.........

Another stinking foreigner? When your ancestors came to this country they were foreigners too. They were given the chance to improve their lives and become good citizens. Give others the same opportunity as well, and get off your high horse.

Not true. I've seen those kind of people turn into engineers, doctors and hard-working citizens. If he was white you wouldn't be saying that, you ignorant fool.

You said, "these people," referring to the guy's race. Why don't you go wash your single-wide trailer home and get rid of those roaches.

How in the hell can anyone try to compare this man with someone who slithered accross the border, lied to anyone he had to, stole someone's identity, and illegally took a job that a legal immigrant or American citizen could have had.
This man stands head and shoulders above someone like that.
I HOPE EVERYONE UNDERSTANDS THAT RACE IS NOT AN ISSUE HERE. IT IS ALL ABOUT CHARACTER. ABOUT SOMEONE WHO EARNED THE RIGHT TO COME HERE.
Now it is up to him to assimilate into our country and earn the right to become a citizen.

You are plain ignorant. I am "another stinking foreigner." Guess what? I also came here legally as well. My father was asked to come down here, yes that's right. Come to the United States, use our schools. We pay taxes, we are educated, I pay taxes here just like any citizen. I also work, and am in the middle of getting my university education, getting a job IN AMERICA AND BECOMMING A CITIZEN. My family has done the same things as any American down here, they have contributed as in keeping a good job, and paying back into society to what we take. We are well educated and were asked to come down here, as in job transfer.

I'm Canadian, my mother tongue is English as well so I'm also not so ignorant as to what language people speak around here.

if someone puts their life on the line for 5 years straight, and on top of that risk their families lives by association to help the troops and the cause they deserve the chance to become an american.

as far as i'm concerned this guy seems like the type that would refuse government aid unless he absolutely had no choice. to me it seems, due to his 5 year commitment he's already survived, that he has more HONOR than some of these worthless bias idiots on this forum.

it also seems to me that the same people that bitch about these issues are also the same people that are either not content with their lives/income or try to nickel and dime the government any chance they get.

you want work? you want a hard job? try dodging ieds for a year in 140 degree heat. oops, in this case 5 years!

this guy i bet could show a LOT of americans what a hard life and work ethic and commitment is all about. i'd rather have him here, as an american, instead.
