fire at general industries
Elyria – A motorist passing by the General Industries building on Taylor Street Thursday afternoon may well have prevented a large fire.
Assistant Chief Glenn Saddler of the Elyria Fire Department said workers using a cutting torch on pipes in the building probably sparked the fire. The workers didn’t notice anything wrong when they took a break and left for lunch but a man passing by called 9-1-1 and said there was a lot of smoke coming off the building.
Saddler said that the fire started where two buildings were joined together and that Firefighters had to open a wall cavity to get to the fire. The fire was extinguished quickly and there were no injuries.

Maybe someone should look at other communities and see if they are having financial problems also. IT IS NOT JUST IN ELYRIA............... Why is it anytime someone is passed by for advancement they get angry and holler discrimination, be it racial, sex or age. Maybe everyone should look at themselves and see how or why they were passed over. Maybe she should leave her job and make everyone involved life easier. If she qualifies for advancement then she should have no problem finding work elsewhere. It's time to grow up

I don't believe the person who is getting the recall together is her, and I can assure you the persons involved do not work for the City; nor have any affiliation of such.
So read before you open your mouth...Or are you just another sitcom for Piglet? |

Let's see. Someone put dark trash cans in the roadway....A motorcycle comes along, and being dark, cannot see the cans. He hits them and wrecks. Then the trooper has the audacity to cite him for failure to control??!!!! Isn't something wrong with this picture??

I have to wonder if Station 2 would of been open could the response times been greater? I know we would of still had to call for mutual aid but at least it wouldn't of taken 25 minutes for Station 2 to get here as it did Station 1..they were out on a prior call when this came in..
Anyhow, this is Debb Coon, and I am from the recall committee...if you have anything youw ould like to address feel free to email me..I'm not hard to find.. God Bless all the firefighters and police officers who were on the scene, and not to mention the tanker they had called in from Litchfield..bet ya didnt know that huh? |

This happened right behind my house. I live on Cleveland St right by Wendy's. When I was evacuated I could see the flames from my driveway. It was a very scary sight to see. I have a 10 month old son. I'm glad the building is gone, but it didn't have to burn down and endanger so many people! Thank goodness for all the people who responded to the call and risked their lives to control and tame that blaze!!!

I would like to know wht the Elyria Fire Department sat around for 30 - 45 minutes after arriving on scene before the made any attempt to fight the fire. When they arrived only the dock area was on fire. If they would have started putting water into the fire the moment they got there most of that building could have been saved.

no name..I have no clue about that..I can only speak to what I know...I can say this though they probably had to get an area where they cuold have access to without it caving in on them. I think I overheard some talk about that issue.
I can't believe the building could have been saved..but I wasn't there either on the scene..I only know what the people who were on the scene right away have told me...I am glad nobody was injured, and I didn't even know there was an apartment in that building. Thank goodness the man who lived there wasn't inside the building then... I hope all of you will show up at the council meeting on Monday at 7:00 pm to let the Mayor know how unhappy you were about the whole situation. |
