Crushed car ordeal ‘scary’: Lorain woman cheats death by inches

One minute Lorain resident Alicia Rivera was driving home from work Sunday night in a wind storm, seeing branches and power lines brought down by the remnants of Hurricane Ike. The next thing she remembered, emergency crews were working to rescue her from her car, which was crushed by a falling tree on Pearl Avenue.

Lorain Wal-Mart gets final approval

City Council gave its OK Monday night to build a Wal-Mart in Lorain.

After ensuring that a natural hedge would act as a fence for neighbors behind the retail development in Lighthouse Village, council voted in favor of the final development plan for Wal-Mart and other phases of the plan, which will include 10 smaller tenants and possibly a restaurant.
