Chicago police shot and critically wounded a person early Sunday on the city's South Side, police said.
At about 2:13 a.m., police responded to a call of shots fired in the 6100 block of South Kedzie Avenue, the Chicago Police News Affairs office said in a release. Police and an armed person exchanged gunfire. The suspect was struck and transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition, according to police.
The Independent Police Review Authority is investigating the incident.

Man shot, wounded in downtown Chicago
A 22-year-old man was shot and wounded early Saturday in downtown Chicago, police said.
The victim was with a group that encountered another group of people around 12:45 a.m. at Randolph Street and Michigan Avenue, police said. The victim got into an altercation with a member of the second group and was shot in the torso, police said. He was in stable condition at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, police said.
Police had no motive and no suspect in custody. The incident is under investigation.
