THE Pretoria High Court ruled yesterday that South Africans of Chinese descent should be defined as black for the purposes of the employment equity and broad-based black economic empowerment legislation.

As long as its in the name of economic parity I guess the Chinese don't give a hoot how they are classified. What a can of worms this will open. Oooops......
|
Perhaps you should ask Mr Pow Chong how he feels about cans of worms...

I'm just wondering how the Chinese in China/Taiwan will view this ruling and their reaction to it. They see themselves as Chinese first and foremost. As an ethnicity, solely Chinese and perhaps not favorably considered black. Will they feel it an attempt to change world perception of them as Asian/Oriental? I don't know, just curious. |
300 thousand Chinese getting ahead even though there were only 15-20 thousands Chinese during Aparteid.

Yes and they are going to rapidly accelerate the modernization of SA, picking up from where less ambitious and far more racist Afrikaners, stumbled. When the first indigenously-built South African aircraft carrier puts out to sea, it will likely be due to the essential work of hundreds of skilled,'black' South African naval architects and engineers of Chinese ancestry. My guess is that the remainder of SA's 21st century will be the era of 'yellow supremacy' if you will.... lol P.S. And if the blacks really want the country to take off like wildfire, they'd better develop a strong Jewish-recruitment component to their immigration policy. |

Judged: 1 1 1 Hi Harrison! However, what the SA's are doing now is substituting white supremacy w/ Chinese supremacy and it will not beneifit the SA's at all but will greatly benefit the Chinese! The SA gov't should be trying to develop econmonic progress on their own b/c before they know it they will be owned again! Furthermore, this is where Pan-Africanism should be sought out so that Africans and AA's can help each other out economically! We have to start turning towards each other not the Chinese or others who only want to exploit the SA's like it was done decades ago. The Chinese are the new imperialist in Africa! Peace + Blessings |

They were/used to be. But bowing to political pressure from some Chinese group they were officially re-classified as "black" to address economic disparites such as contract bidding ect. This was to put them on par with East Indians and Native blacks. So I gather from the article...... |
2.5 billion!! HAHAHAHAHA!! Another clanger by pooh-for-brains here. Well over a third of the world's population is Chinese! ROFL!!! HEHEHEHEHE!!! Oh my sides!! |

But the question to ask oneself is: Will this name change be of real benefit to the true, real, legit black Africans? While the influx of these Chinese may indeed be a shot in the arm(economically) to SA,what does this say of the talents, abilities, and potential for the native blacks? Is it a recognition by the SA gov't that the natives are behind their Chinese contemporaries? With limited skills? That seems a little disrespectful to the people looking to the gov't to lead them and help better their lot. Trying to understand here..... |
