Backgammon is a game for two players where each player has fifteen pieces called checkers (or sometimes stones) on the board.
Backgammon board has twenty-four triangles of alternating dark and light color. These triangles are called points or pips.

Players move their checkers between the pips according to the roll of two dice.

The objective of the game is to be first to clear the board off your checkers. Moving of checkers off the board is called bearing off. The player who first bears off (moves all of his/her 15 checkers off the board) wins the game.

It is believed that the English word Backgammon was derived from the word "back" plus the Middle English word "gamen" (game). Backgammon has a very ancient history: archeologists excavating the "Burnt City" in Iran found the earlist known backgammon's 2 dice and 60 pieces dating back to around 3000 BC.

Despite a popular misconception among beginners, in backgammon luck plays a very insignificant role. Backgammon is first and foremost a game of skill. For multi-point backgammon matches with doubling cube, the more skillfull player will win most of the time.

When you play for money, isn't it gambling?

In the statutes of most states in the USA, gambling is defined as: "risking something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance". In 1981-1982, a US Court Judge Stephen S. Walker in the state of Oregon has concluded that "backgammon is not a game of chance but a game of skill." See details here how a US court decided in favor of a backgammon promoter, ruling that backgammon is a non-gambling game of skill.

Even though Lady Luck can occasionally show her silly face in backgammon, eventually the more skilled player is bound to win more backgammon matches, more games and more money!

From your Manage Account area at GameColony.com, you'd see a wealth of information on everybody you recommended and who and when they played and for how much and who won and what GameColony.com commission was and what your 20% share of it was. The recommender fees should start rolling in!
