Chess-Vision

A new game every month!

Skip the introduction below - go straight to this month's game!

A game by Gata Kamsky, the current highest-rated US player, is featured in the August Chess Vision exercise.

Once you choose a starting target position, the exercise will begin. The clock will be running! Click on squares in the diagram AS IF THE LISTED MOVE(S) HAD ALREADY BEEN MADE to indicate where every move that could make a capture or give check STARTS and ENDS. Correct responses will automatically be notated in the tables -- all you do is click! In this exercise, players try to imagine up to 10 moves being made from a starting diagram, with the goal of finding all the legal captures and checks that could be made in the envisioned position.

To begin the exercise, choose how many half-moves you want to try to look ahead each turn, and how much time you wish to allow yourself to find all the possible captures and checks. Then decide whether you want to use the default starting position (the one shown on the right) or begin in a different part of the game.

You decide how far to look ahead (from one to ten half-moves) and how much time to allow yourself (from 30 seconds to 10 minutes.)  You can even choose the starting position from that month's game:

Then, two weeks later, the same game is used for that month's Recon64 game, so you can continue working on and mastering that month's game.  A great way to work on your all-important chess visualization skills!

Ready?  Go to this month's game!
