Featured Game #15:

A Little Grand Prix Music

In the Fall of 2001, a 15-week tournament known as the "Grand Prix" series was played on the FICS server. Fermy's brainchild, these tournaments successfully attracted the attention of all the best buggers on the FICS and made for some very exciting competition. Let me tell you, seeing so many of the World's best players together in live competition was some show!

The two standout players in the Grand Prix series were pminear and JKiller, with pminear ultimately winning the series by a narrow margin. The featured game this month shows how pminear and JKiller were able to succeed in this very competitive tournament -- their play in this game is simple, strong, and ruthlessly precise. Here's that game.

Based on the success of this tournament, I think it's likely there will be many more Grand Prix tournaments in the future. Quite possibly, this will become an annual event.
