How To Enroll in District 87 Schools

First, please verify District 87 residency
To determine District 87 residency, call the District 87 Office at 309-827-6031 between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. weekdays and from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. during the summer.

This information is also available via the online Property Database through the McLean County Tax Assessor's Office. After linking to this page, select the City of Bloomington button. This allows partial address searches by street or number. Type in your address, or future address, and if "087" appears under "School Dis", then the property is located within District 87.

Which school will my child attend?
All students in grades 6 through 8 attend Bloomington Junior High School. All students in grades 9 through 12 attend Bloomington High School. Each elementary school in District 87 serves students residing in a specific area. To determine which school serves a specific address, call the District 87 Office at 309-827-6031 between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. weekdays during the school year and from 7:00 a.m to 3:00 p.m. during the summer. Age requirements
According to Illinois Law, every child between the ages of five and 17 must attend school. All children who will be five years old on or before September 1, 2007 (for the 2007-2008 school year) must attend school in either a licensed private or public school kindergarten.

Children ages 3 to 21 years with exceptional needs who qualify for Special Education services are eligible for admission in District 87.

Homeless children

Each child of a homeless individual and each homeless youth has equal access to the same free appropriate public education as provided to other children and youths, including a public pre-school education. A homeless child may attend the District 87 school they attended when permanently housed or in which the child was last enrolled.

Registration
Walk-In Registration takes place at each local elementary and secondary school. Parents registering their children for the first time in District 87 should bring the child's birth certificate, immunization records, Social Security number, and proof of district residency (2 forms). Transfer/New students
Students transferring to District 87 schools from another Illinois school must have all health and immunization requirements in preschool, kindergarten, sixth and ninth grades. Students new to District 87 may transfer their health records. Transfer students are required to have an Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) Student Transfer form. If the records of a transfer student are not received within 30 days of the request for such records, parents will be informed, and an additional ten (10) school days will be allowed to show proof of meeting physical examination and immunization requirements. If proof of meeting such requirements is not provided within the above timeframes, the transfer student will be excluded from school until proof is presented to school authorities.
