could Betty Cuthbert be added in the births section (since there is a wiki page about her too)

In reply to the guy above, I wonder about adding fictional character birthdays. This is Marge Simpson's birthday, too. Homer claims to remember it because it's "the same as Hitler's"... But I don't see any others mentioned here, so I didn't. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.1.186.174 (talkcontribs) 17:34, 20 April 2008

Moved birth from article:

Removed a non-notable birth (Karen Elisabeth Olsen Denchfield). If there is a reason why this person should be here, please tell us here. DJ Clayworth 15:35, 21 Apr 2004 (UTC)

[edit] incomprehensible entry

1775 - American Revolutionary War: British troops begin Boston, Massachusetts. Does anyone know what this should actually read as, as the English is incorrect and unclear. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Aldarsior (talkcontribs) 14:28, 2006 April 20.

Someone has fixed it now. -- PFHLai 00:33, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

Also, which day exactly was Carter attacked? this shows up at least on april 19 and april 20. Jimmy Carter's article doesn't specify a date. -- User:Aldarsior

Please see http://www.narsil.org/politics/carter/killer_rabbit.html . It says April 20th. -- PFHLai 00:33, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

what about the whole marijuana thing? -- —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.198.171.251 (talkcontribs) 00:47, 21 April 2006 (UTC).

[edit] 420

Known to the counter-culture as "National Smoke-Out Day", April 20th has long been known to be the day that "stoners" celebrate getting "high". It is widely believed, although not entirely true, that 420 is a police code for narcotics. See also; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/420_%28cannabis_culture%29

[edit] Columbine-Like

I put up a Note on the April 20 page noting that students often choose it to attempt a school shooting in memory of Columbine. Does anyone disagree with that?

I'd just like to mention,

  • Oklahoma city bombing April 19
  • Hitler's birthday - April 20
  • Columbine - April 20th
  • V-tech shooting - April 16
  • Waco Branch Davidian standoff - April 19

[edit] Holidays such as "Birth of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh&hf)

Please stop reverting this. This is based on the Islamic Lunar Calendar and not on the Gregorian calendar. If you wish to add such holidays not based on the Gregorian calendar, then you might as well add EVERY holiday on every single date they occured that isn't based on the Gregorian calendar. Such as (examples, may not be true):

April 18 1849 - Birth of Muhammad (pbuh&hf) April 19 1850 - Birth of Muhammad (pbuh&hf)

It is pointless to put those things down for Gregorian dates. However, it is good to put them down for their dates on their correct calendar (eg Muhammad's (pbuh&hf) birth for 17 Rabi'l-Awwal on the Islamic calendar). Thanks! Armyrifle 00:02, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

  • Someone removed the birthdate for Muhammed. I've restored this. I understand that there is a dispute about the date (year= 570 (also disputed) on April 20 or April 26) I welcome your thoughts on the following: I propose leaving the April 20 date (and perhaps April 26 and indicating that this is disputer). Thoughts? Thanks, Hu Gadarn 18:23, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
The same thing is done for Jesus on numerous dates for assumed birth dates. I would think the same thing would apply here. -- Borameer 19:46, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Cannabis culture

April 20 is a very important day for cannabis smokers worldwide. Many protests against anti-cannabis laws happen on this day. This should not be removed from the article just because the holiday is not "official". It probably never will be because of its drug-related theme, but it is still important. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 65.188.253.13 (talk) 16:45, 3 March 2007 (UTC).

I agree. Over 20 million Americans smoke marijuana and many of them celebrate this holiday even though it is not sanctioned by the US government. Furthermore, this isn't exclusive to Americans. Even arguing from an antidrug standpoint, if parents were to hear their kids talking about celebrating 420 or April 20th, they may like to find out why that is. There is no rational reason to exclude this from Wikipedia. NaK-Pump 23:57, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

I re-added it. --Bobby D. DS. 23:22, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
I tried to re-add it, but I guess not everyone gets to edit this encyclopedia. hmm... ---Anonymous 15:00, 15 February 2008 (EST) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.128.192.135 (talk)

[edit] Adding Daijiro Kato to the list of Deaths for this entry

Daijiro Kato, a MotoGP rider died on April 20th, 2003. He has an entry on Wikipedia, but I think that he should be included on the April 20th page as well.

http://world.honda.com/WGP/2003/0420.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daijiro_Kato

He was considered to be one of the major rising stars of Motorcycle racing and was the first person that people widely believed could contend with Valentino Rossi's dominance of the sport. Forgey 08:38, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Saint Victor

The Victor whose feast day is celebrated on 20 April is not Victor Maurus (whose feast day is 8 May). The 20 April Victor is one of a group of martyrs killed in Nicodemia in 303 A.D. See [1]. PubliusFL 16:25, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] 420

Moved from my talk page -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 01:50, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

sorry for marking my change as minor. that was a mistake on my part; i was confused as to the exact meaning of minor changes. but i'm confused why 420 does not constitute a holiday/observance on April 20th? Real eyes realize real lies (talk) 22:06, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

It is not a widely celebrated religious or social observance. It is a counterculture "holiday" and has no real global significance. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 23:22, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

whether or not it is widely celebrated would be hard to determine. the fact that it is a "counterculture holiday" does not change the fact that it is a holiday for a certain group of people. Real eyes realize real lies (talk) 01:45, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Aubrey de Grey

Could someone with access to editing please correct the article about de Grey: He is not a "pro-life activist" as it currently says. He is a gerontologist (and an advocate for rejuvenation). Thank you . //Misopogon 85.229.105.1 (talk) 18:37, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Caresse Crosby

The link for Caresse Crosby mistakenly directs the user to the page for Mary Phelps Jacob. Can someone with more skill fix this? Thanks! - phx
