East San Gabriel is a census-designated place (CDP) in Los Angeles County, California, United States. The population was 14,512 at the 2000 census.

East San Gabriel is located at 34°7′9″N, 118°4′55″W (34.119149, -118.082053)[1].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 4.1 km² (1.6 mi²). 4.0 km² (1.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.64% is water.

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 14,512 people, 5,201 households, and 3,708 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 3,614.9/km² (9,337.5/mi²). There were 5,391 housing units at an average density of 1,342.9/km² (3,468.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 42.55% White, 1.85% Black or African American, 0.63% Native American, 40.47% Asian, 0.09% Pacific Islander, 10.12% from other races, and 4.28% from two or more races. 23.52% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 5,201 households out of which 34.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.4% were married couples living together, 12.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.7% were non-families. 22.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.79 and the average family size was 3.28.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 23.7% under the age of 18, 8.8% from 18 to 24, 32.0% from 25 to 44, 23.4% from 45 to 64, and 12.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 94.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.3 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $51,301, and the median income for a family was $59,127. Males had a median income of $42,491 versus $32,479 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $23,571. About 9.1% of families and 10.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 14.5% of those under age 18 and 6.3% of those age 65 or over.

In the state legislature East San Gabriel is located in the 21st and 29th Senate Districts, represented by Democrat Jack Scott and Republican Bob Margett respectively, and in the 49th Assembly District, represented by Democrat Mike Eng. Federally, East San Gabriel is located in California's 26th and 29th congressional districts, which have Cook PVIs of R +4 and D +12 respectively[3] and are represented by Republican David Dreier and Democrat Adam Schiff respectively.
