Allahabad Bank

Allahabad Bank is the oldest public sector bank in India, having begun operations in 1865. Its head-quarters are now in Kolkata.
On 19th July, 1969 the Government of India nationalized the bank, along with 13 other commercial banks.
Currently the bank has 44 regional and totally 1,934 branches [1] across the country. The bank is headed by Avinash Chander Mahajan who is the Chairman and Managing Director of the bank.

- 1865 Bank is founded with Head Office at Allahabad.
- 1920 P&O Bank buys Allahabad Bank.
- 1923 The bank moves its head office to Kolkatta.
- 1927 Chartered Bank of India, Australia and China acquires P&O Bank, which it amalgamates, but continues to operate Allahabad Bank separately.
- 1969 The Government of India nationalizes the bank.
- 1989 Allahabad Bank acquires United Industrial Bank and amalgamates it.
- 2006 Allahabad Bank announces implementation of CBS.
