CECsst.177 TITLE: Interviewing of Historical Figures AUTHOR: Judy Ross, Scott L. Libby School, Litchfield Park, Arizona GRADE LEVEL: Appropriate for Grades 5-8 OVERVIEW: The students will gain knowledge of historical figures using an interviewing technique. PURPOSE: The students will develop research techniques, writing, listening and speaking skills. OBJECTIVE(s): The students will: 1. research a historical figure. 2. take notes. 3. formulate appropriate questions to gain knowledge of the historical person. 4. work cooperatively in small groups. 5. perform interview with partner with whole class as the audience. 6. evaluate - peers and self. 7. demonstrate good listening and speaking skills. RESOURCES/ MATERIALS NEEDED:resource books, pictures of character, student created microphone, costumes, computer program ( Time Liner ) ACTIVITIES: 1. Research a historical figure with a partner. 2. Take notes from resource books. 3. Formulate and record the questions and suggested answers within the group. 4. Practice the interview. 5. Perform the interview with the whole class as an audience. 6. Complete an evaluation form - self/peer. 7. Accelerated group - Develop a time line of the person's life using the computer. TYING IT ALL TOGETHER: 1. Presentation of several of the interviews at the Patriotic Assembly in February. 2. Print and display time lines.
