TITLE:  AMERICAN POLITICAL CULTURE

GRADE LEVEL/SUBJECT:  12:  U.S. GOVERNMENT

OBJECTIVE(s):  This lesson plan stimulates classroom
discussion of basic values.  First a personal evaluation is
taken, and then those personal values are compared and
contrasted with the class as a whole.

ACTIVITIES AND PROCEDURES:  Distribute the following sheet
to each student:

Rate the following values in order of importance.  #1 being
the most important and #14 being the least important.  Do
not be wishy-washy, they all must be ranked.

_____ Freedom of Speech

_____ Equality of opportunity

_____ Self-reliance

_____ Loyalty to country

_____ Tolerance of others

_____ Freedom of religion

_____ Individual initiative

_____ Right to private property

_____ Government by law, not individuals

_____ Concern for the underdog

_____ Fair Play

_____ Justice

_____ Order in Society

After students have finished either the teacher leads the
discussion, or students can debate these values.  Also, a
total class ranking should take place, so that students can
compare themselves with others.
