CECsst.228 TITLE: World War II; Pamphlet Project AUTHOR: Jeff Jelskey, Natrona County High School: Casper,Wyoming GRADE LEVEL/SUBJECT: 11, Modern American Studies OBJECTIVE: The students will be able to recognize the importance of propaganda's role in promoting or rejecting war by making pamphlets that either persuade U.S. involvement in WWI or isolation from it. RESOURCES/MATERIALS: Construction paper (colored), pens, pencils, scissors, rulers, magazines, glue, markers, stencils, etc. ACTIVITIES AND PROCEDURES: Through lecture, question and answer time, and visuals (overhead, chalkboard). 1. Discuss the history of WWI up to America's involvement. 1914-1917 (Q&A) 2. Define the word propaganda on overhead. (Visual) discuss the use of propaganda in other wars. (Revolution, Civil, etc.) 3. Give instructions for project on the chalkboard: a. Using legal sized construction paper fold it into three equal parts (trifold) b. The pamphlet must contain these components: 1. Cover: color and slogan to catch the eye. 2. Inside (3 panels): 5 facts on WWI, pictures, drawings, and sponsor of pamphlet. 3. Back panel: Closing statement with info address. 4. Model example pamphlets to students (good and bad). TYING IT ALL TOGETHER: Have students look at propaganda posters and visuals from other countries involved in WWI: France, Germany, England.
