CECsst.256 TITLE: Ten O'Clock News AUTHOR: Shawn Rodman, Decker Lake Youth Center; Salt Lake City, Utah GRADE LEVEL: 9-12 OVERVIEW: This activity is designed to be a group research for a high school history class. PURPOSE: To encourage students to find more detailed information about historical events and people. OBJECTIVE(s): Students will conduct interviews involving historical figures involved in historical events. RESOURCES: History Books, Encyclopedias, video Camera ACTIVITIES AND PROCEDURES: Students will investigate a historical event. (ie. XYZ Affair). Students will write a dialogue depicting a television reporter interviewing a historical figure (Agent X). Students will perform the interview in a newscast format using the dialogue they have previously written. The interviews should be 5-10 minutes long. (Videotape if possible). Show the newscast to the rest of the class. TYING IT ALL TOGETHER: Students seem to enjoy doing the research, as well as performing the interview. It is also fun to allow them to bring in some personal information about the characters and the freedom to make it funny or serious in nature.
