CECsst.257 TITLE: The ABC'S of an Election AUTHOR: Daniel R. Toomey, Denver Academy; Denver, CO. GRADE LEVEL: Appropriate for grades 5-12. OVERVIEW: This activity is to have students become familiar with political vocabulary. PURPOSE: Get students familiar with the newspaper and the names of candidates, issues, endorsements, and other important info. OBJECTIVE: Have students cut out words pertaining to an election and place in the appropriate column. RESOURCES/MATERIALS: Newspaper, scissors, glue or tape. ACTIVITIES AND PROCEDURES: Students will be given the homework sheet (see attached) and will be required to select appropriate words. Place words in the proper column. Pair up students and they score their according to how many words they have that the partner does not. TYING IT ALL TOGETHER: Students enjoy this easy to do activity and the scoring system.
