Watch SABC 1 at 8:30pm on Thursday the 29th November - program Zola7 will interview with Charneen Neethling from KZN, who talks to an ex inmate who has served 9 years in jail and his passion is to coach chess to children. Each show revolves arond the story of a single person who is preparing for a day that will have an impact on their lives - a day they will never forget. The episode is about Nkosinathi Thabethe, an ex inmate with no resources, who wants to pass on the passion and skill of chess to disadvantaged school children. This took place at a KZN school over three days and it is amazing to meet the people involved in this. Zola from SABC1is a form of reach for a dream.

Coaching clinic for all players Under 12 years old
There are no sessions in the government school holidays.
This takes place every Saturday at the Boskruin community centre and is there for the benefit of your kids to improve their chess. The clinic will be held over 2 sessions to allow you to choose a time that is most suitable for yourself. The first session is from
8am - 10am and the second from 10am to 12.00 midday.
To cover costs we are asking parents to pay R30 for the 2 hour session - this is an absolute bargain. To facilitate administration of these costs we ask you to kindly deposit the money into NWR chess account, monthly in advance. Thus the cost per month will be R120 per month per player. Unfortunately, should a player miss a session we will not be able to refund the money.
The account for payment is
Bank: Standard Bank
Account Name: North West Rand Chess Association
Account number: 00 207 571 7
Branch: Rosebank
Branch: 4305
Please bring proof of payment with you.
We appreciate your support and believe you children will benefit enormously from these sessions.
NWR committee.

Coming up on Carte Blanche.............Sunday 19 May 2007...........Presenter: Derek Watts
Check mate for change
It’s a game of power, strategy and common sense. Thought to have been invented in India around the 6th century, the game of chess is still alive and actively played today. In fact, in
New York’s South Bronx, the game has changed the lives of many disillusioned young
children and has become the inspiration for the film, Knights of the South Bronx. Based on
the remarkable story of David MacEnulty, the film depicts the ways in which chess has had a positive impact on children. In South Africa, it gave rise to Chess for Change, an initiative aimed at introducing the game in local schools. The results speak for themselves. Carte Blanche brings you the story.
Producer: Carol Albertyn Christie .............Presenter: Bongani Bingwa and Derek Watts
