Hoyles - the first name in games

Hoyle's offers games, equipment and books for a wide variety of games, mindgames, parlour games and card games, specialising in board games, chess sets, chess boards, chess pieces, chess tables, chess clocks, unique gifts, gift ideas, backgammon sets, go game, juggling equipment, card tricks, puzzles, dice, magic cards, magic tricks , and lots more.

Edmund Hoyle (1672 - 1769) undertook the enormous task of codifying the rules of games and the fruit of his endeavours, Hoyle's Rules of Games, now includes rules, strategies and odds for over 250 games.

Hoyle's Games Shop was established in Oxford with the intention of supplying the necessary sets, equipment and gaming pieces for all these games and has since expanded to include juggling equipment and magic. About 20% of what we sell carries the Hoyle brand.

We have recently opened our second shop in Bath, Somerset, England, right in the town centre by the beautiful medieval Abbey, at 13 Northumberland Place, telephone 01225 445970, and talk to Rupert Samuels our manager there.

In each category we sell basic value equipment as well as expensive deluxe variations. The top 'how to' books on each game are carried in the shop with a section in each category on this web site devoted to the top selling books in our shop.

The Value Added Tax (levied at 17.5%) which is included in the prices shown is removed from the final shopping basket total (including postage charges) for purchasers who live outside the European union. The calculation to remove the amount due for tax may show itself as a minus figure in the postage rate. Thus a chess set, for example, selling at £117.50, will be effectively reduced to £100 for those living in the U.S.A., Japan, Australia, and so on.
