chess games links

data information page

WELCOME!

Thank you for your interest in the CD/DVD of internet chess data (cbf, cbh, pgn, si3) based on my link collection of free downloadable chess games at http://www.chessgameslinks.lars-balzer.info.

I have put nearly all the free chessgames files (no commercial data) I have ever downloaded from the pages of my linklist in the last 8 years on 5 CDs (alternatively 1 DVD). That is about 3000 MB of compressed (about 13 (!) GB uncompressed) chess-data.

For this I have uncompressed every file I found if necessary, categorised everything and finally compressed them again in a few number of new files.

CONTENT OF THE CHESS GAMES CD/DVD IN DETAIL

In detail I have prepared the four sections "megabases", "periodic", "tournaments" and "persons".

The first section (megabases) includes large databases with millions of different games I found somewhere at the internet - "different" means how many games you get when using a quite conservative algorithm of doubles-search. The original amount of games you get is even higher.
Some of these databases are not online any more and can't be found somewhere else. In detail that is:

Megabase status format different games content
Chess Analysis Project online pgn about 4 000 000 games until 2005
Chess Clinic offline pgn about 2 700 000 games until 2002
Encyclopedia Of Chess Openings offline pgn about 2 600 000 games until 2001
Scid Free Chess online si3 about 1 500 000 games until 2003
Darkside offline pgn about 1 500 000 games until 1999
Hyatt-file online pgn about 1 500 000 games until 2005
Chess Collect online pgn about 750 000 games until 2005
Jose Chess online php about 500 000 games until 2005
La Regence offline pgn about 400 000 games until 2001
Eco Base offline cbh about 300 000 games from 2000-2001
Chess Openings Library offline pgn about 100 000 games until 1996

The second section (periodic) includes several periodically published game-collections. In detail that is:

The third section (tournaments) includes three compressed files with thousands of different single tournaments (from past to present, from amateur chess to world championships, from single tournaments to team tournaments, computer chess and lots more) in cbf, cbh or pgn-format.
In detail that is 10627 pgn-databases, 3899 cbf-databases and 2444 cbh-databases.

The fourth section (persons) includes one newly built compressed file with many single pgn, cbf and cbh-files of famous chess-players. In detail that is 81 pgn-databases, 343 cbf-databases and 5 cbh-databases.

WHAT IS YOUR BENEFIT IN DETAIL?

The data of this CD/DVD fits many different needs:

First of all you save the time and the money to search for and download about 3000 MB of compressed (about 13 (!) GB uncompressed) chess-data (Not to speak about the fact that you do not have the chance to get everything because not all files are online any more).

Then there are several different ways to work with the data:

If you have this data it will be no problem for you to prepare yourself for your next opponent; to search for example games (master games as well as amateur chess) for your favorite opening, even if you like side-lines; to search for one specific game of the past, to have a look at "ideas" of computers, ...

The quality of games (especially editing of names, tournaments, etc.) varies from database to database. Some of them are perfectly edited, some of them emphasize on collecting each game that could be found at the internet. With the material of this CD/DVD you can decide what kind of database you would like to built for yourself: If you want to have a high-quality database you will find games to put in; if you prefer to have a very large one it will be no problem for you, too. Or perhaps you want to have a computer-chess database, or something else?

Furthermore, you get an interesting view into the development of chessgames publishing at the internet from the very beginning up to now.

Furthermore,...

FORMAT OF THE GAMEFILES

I provide all the files to you in the original way I found them at the internet with the exception of uncompressing every file, categorising them and finally compressing them again in a few number of new compressed files. I have used the rar-compression method because it has the highest compression rate for this kind of data so you can get most out of the 5 CDs / 1 DVD. Most freeware or shareware packers can handle this format. After unpacking everything you will find pgn-files as well as cbf and cbh-files and a few si3-files.

COSTS OF THIS SERVICE

Getting this data (5 CDs - alternatively 1DVD) would cost you:
28,50 EUR including all shipping costs to every country of the world!
