developed by the Ancient Chinese. The authors discuss scientific and technological

warfare, transportation as well as the historical and intellectual contexts
of Chinese scientific knowledge.

This educational webpage focuses on the geography,culture, and in a smaller
sense the language of China. The page is rich in content and is quite
graphic intensive.

Scenic Tour of China : ThinkQuest '98
A web project from students at a Beijing secondary school, the site offers
visitors an introduction of China and images of some of the most well-known
sights in China--including Beijing and The Great Wall of China, Xi'an,
Guilin, and Huangshan.
Ancient
History of China : ThinkQuest '98
This entry created by students from the USA and Canada focuses on four
of the world's oldest dynasties and empires--China, Egypt, Greece and
Rome. For each of the four they students provide the history of their
beginnings, their cultures, beliefs as well as pictures and graphics.

Chinese Odyssey : ThinkQuest '97
This website was created by three students from Singapore. Although some
pages are still under construction, the site contains sections on Chinese
history and literature and is well-supported with images. This is a well-researched
introduction to Ancient Chinese history and civilization.

well-designed with surprising elements on each page. The Museum is a model
of how to use copyright information online (don't miss the gift shop).
The site is interactive (including scavenger hunt) and fun. The library
is full of material on Chinese history, philosophy and mythology and visitors
to the temple can learn about Chinese religions.

History of China
Leon Poon from the University of Maryland has republished the contents of the history portion of the Army Area Handbook on China. Specifically, the history section was written by Rinn-Sup Shinn and Robert L. Worden. THe site includes hypertext chronologies, contents and a search engine. An excellent introduction to this subject. In addition there are links to other Web projects including The Silk Road (text and images) from the UK.

The Palace Museum in BeijingThe Palace Museum, also known as the Purple Forbidden City, was the palace of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Twenty-four emperors lived here over a span of more than 491 years.Constructed in the years from 1406 to 1420 and rebuild many times later, the imperial Palace covers an area of 72 hectares, with more than 9,000 building within it. Treasures of a Chinese ScholarA virtual exhbition from the University of Pennsylvania Musuem of Archaeology and Anthropology. The exhbition features selections of extraordinary "scholar art"-calligraphy, painting, and works of art in wood, lacquer, ivory, stone, horn and metal-from as early as the Zhou Dynasty (770-256 B.C.) through the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911 A.D.).
