The petition was handed in to Number 10 Downing Street on the 7th April 2000. See our update page for details. Thankyou to all the signatories and everybody who helped and supported us.

We are a dedicated campaign website that will remain on-line until chess is recognised as a sport in the UK.

Link this site to your website. Gather signatures and support the campaign. Is your chess club on the Petition Signatures page? We have the support of the Irish, Scottish, Welsh and English governing bodies of chess and many thousands of chess players throughout the UK.

Would you like to see more chess on TV? So would we.
Would you like a whole page dedicated to chess in the sports columns? So would we.

There is a new Early Day Motion. Please write to your MP and make sure they sign and show their support for chess.

See what PM Tony Blair has to say about the campaign with our update pages.

Current information and message board
  • A global alliance is forming between UK, Australia and Canada. All three countries are pushing to have chess recognised as a sport in each respective country.

  • Greece is still undecided as to include chess in 2004 Olympics.
A spokesman was quoted as saying:
"Chess has got as much chance as synchronised swimming, and who'd ever have that in the Olympics."

  • Thirty years on we track down Bobby Fischer, find out his views on chess in 2002.

Our target is still 1,000,000 signatures and e-mails. Help us - help you.

chess: not for squares - official

If we were to say
"We're the Best at Marketing Chess"
You would say "We are Boasting"
If we were to say
"We're not the Best"
You know, We would be lying.
